children with the most outstanding costumes. Selection of the winners for the grand prizes will be made at the assembly area before the parade.
Winners so selected will be listed in the Anaheim Gazette next week when the merchant from whom the child can collect his prize will also be named. The judges will not know what each child wins, and the matching of winner's name to the contributing Anaheim merchant will be based on chance.
To date a number of merchants have already pledged valuable awards. The number of grand prizes so given will be limited to the number of merchants participating. Every child entering the parade, besides being eligible to win one of the grand prizes, will receive an Official Participation Ribbon, and a ticket for a free ride on one of the downtown Bazaar attractions sponsored by the Anaheim Junior Chamber of Commerce.
Boys and girls are expected to wear home-made costumes in the spirit of the annual theme of the festival, this year "Our Home Town." Children who participate should arrive at the Parade Formation Area at 10 a.m.
Trick or Treat will be celebrated in Anaheim on Friday evening, between the hours of 6:30 and 8 pm., and is limited to pupils in grades kindergarten through six. Parents are asked to cooperate with the Anaheim Police Dept. and encourage children to "Trick or Treat."

Certain Claims For Benefits Not Accepted
No claims for extended duration benefits will be accepted from unemployed Californians who exhaust their regular unemployment benefits during October, November and December.
This was announced today by Irving H. Perluss, director of employment, who reported that insured unemployment in the quarter ended Sept. 30 was below the six per cent ratio that triggers the payment of extended duration benefits under the Miller Collier Act passed by the 1959 Legislature.
Perluss said that an average of 192,031 weeks of insured unemployment were certified during July, August and September. This was 5.05 per cent of the statutory base of 3,801,217 employees subject to the Unemployment Insurance Code in the four quarters that ended on March 31, 1960.
This was a lower rate of in-sured unemployment than in the two preceding quarters. However, unemployment insurance claims have been much higher in the first nine months of 1960 than during the comparable period of 1959. A total of $8,320,439 claims have been filed to date in 1960, compared with 5,788,059 in 1959. Of the 1960 claims, 431,682 were claimed under the extended duration program which did not exist in 1959.
Dr. Milton K. Borenstein, chairman of the Institute Committee, announced that sessions will be held on 10 Monday nights, Oct. 17 through Dec. 19.
The following four courses will be given at 7:30 p.m.:
1. "How to Read Hebrew in 8 Easy Lessons" by Rabbi Aaron J. Tofield.

ing 15 agencies when they make their United Fund appeal this year. This appeal is made on behalf of the Red Cross, the Salvation Army, the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and other welfare agencies, all of them equally important in their own field. These agencies are depending for their funds for operating their agencies next year on the money to be received from the Anaheim-Western Communities United Fund. These budgets which have been submitted to the fund, and have been approved by the committee, are minimum requirement budgets and this means that the total goal of $290,000 must be reached in order for each agency to function according to plans set up for next year's services.
One of the agencies in the campaign fund this year is the Visiting Nurses Association and perhaps too little is known of the services this agency renders.
Working under the direction of the family physician the visiting nurse performs a varied number of tasks, such as teaching an anxious mother how to care for her new baby; she may be called in to change surgical dressings, she may help in rehabilitation of an accident victim; in other words, she will render any service which requires professional and technical assistance.

The Family Service Association is another agency which operates with funds received from the Anaheim-Western Communities United Fund. It does its work quietly and many people are not aware that the services of this agency are available to those who need them. Other industrial leaders attending the Friday breakfast were: Harry Barnes, of U.S. Industrial Chemicals; Everett Gillespie, Deloo Batteries; Bob Powell, Interstate Engineering; Pat Patterson, Kwikset Loeks, and Fred Schmuck, Grandmaster.
These men know that the job has to be done. They are all busy people and have their own work to do. They will appreciate the cooperation of all industrial leaders and others in the community in this effort to close out another successful United Fund campaign.
