Prop. 4 Will Extend State College Trustees’ Terms to Eight Years
Support of Proposition 4 on the November ballot by farm, labor, and business groups was announced today by President W. B. Langsdorf of Orange County State College, Fullerton.
The proposed Constitutional amendment, placed on the ballot by action of the State Senate during the 1960 First Examination, newly created Board of Trustees of the State College System. Support of Proposition 4 on the November ballot by farm, labor, and business groups was announced today by President W. B. Langsdorf of Orange County State College, Fullerton.
The proposed Constitutional amendment, placed on the ballot by action of the State Senate during the 1960 First Extraordinary Session, would permit the State Legislature to extend from four to eight years the terms of members of the Jr. Tennis Tourney At Pearson Park
Mrs. Kay Nelson of the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department has announced that a Junior Tennis Tournament will be held in November, co-sponsored by Bill Armstrong of the department.
The tournament is scheduled to be held on the Pearson Park courts in Anaheim on Nov. 19 and 20 with the action starting at 9 a.m.
According to Mrs. Nelson, there will be four classes in both the girls' and boys' division. The different classes will be composed of those 18 and under, 15 and under, 13 and under and 11 years of age and under. During the tournament, there will be no play in the doubles division and a small entry fee of 50 cents will be charged each participant.
Those wishing to enter this tournament must file their applications by 6 pm. Nov. 14.
newly created Board of Trustees of the State College System. The new board, created by the Legislature at its 1960 session, will take over next July from the State Board of Education the task of managing the affairs of California's 15 state colleges much in the manner in which the board of regents directs the operation of the eight-campus University of California.
The Farm Bureau Federation, the State Chamber of Commerce, and the California Labor Federation have noted support of Proposition 4 in the November election. Also, favorable action has been taken by the Town Hall of Los Angeles, which voted 427 to 73 in favor, and the education section of the Commonwealth Club of Northern California.
In civic and education groups the California Congress of Parents and Teachers has given endorsement and active support to Proposition 4, as have the Association of Independent California Colleges and Universities and the alumni council of the University of California's Berkeley campus.
Major reasons given by organizations for support of the provision for longer terms for State College Board trustees are (1) protection against partisan political influence on board appointments, (2) provision for better leadership through terms of service for board members, and (3) better opportunities for planning for future educational needs for the 300,000 students expected to be enrolled in state colleges by 1970.

Cast Ballot for Candidate of Choice — Regardless of Party Registration
"Any registered voter may vote for the candidate of his choice, either Democrat or Republican, regardless of the party in which he (the voter) is registered," said Orange County Clerk L. B. Wallace in statement to the press.
"Many Orange County voters seem to be of the impression that they are permitted to vote only for the candidate representing the party of which they are a member," Wallace continued.
The County Clerk pointed out that in primary elections, held in June, voters may cast ballots only for their own party. "However, in general elections, any voter may vote for any candidate on the ballot."
This is most important, Wallace pointed out, because many voters have been misinformed on this point, and if they are not given correct information, the election will not reflect the true choice of the people.
"As an example," Wallace said, "anyone, regardless of whether he is a Democrat, a Republican, a Prohibitionist or Decline to State,' may vote for either Senator Kennedy or Vice-President Nixon for the office of President."
Wallace also stated that all ballots are secret, and they there is no way anyone may determine for whom an individual has voted.
Clerk Wallace reminded voters to save the postal card advising them of the address of their polling place. "This is particularly important," he said, "because due to our population increase, many new precincts have been created, and many polling places moved. Last-minute information may not be available due to over-worked switchboards, etc." Wallace concluded.
