Winners Will Parade In Anaheim Majorettes To Twirl Sunday In State Competition At Disneyland Halloween is nearing and so is the California State Twirling Corp Championship to be held at Holidayland in Disneyland, October 23. This exciting competition will bring majorette corps from San Francisco to San Diego together to compete for the title of California State Champion Majorette Corp. Sponsored by the National Twirling Corp Assn., it is given the full support of the Anaheim Chamber of Commerce, City of Anaheim and Disneyland, Inc. Miss Jo-Ann Burdick, Anaheim baton and dance artist, is president of the NTCA. She announces that the competition is free and will be broken into several categories. The schedule includes solo twirling and strutting at 8:30 a.m.; apprentice junior and senior corps at 11 a.m. and continuing with the open junior and senior corps. Ending at approximately 4 p.m., the contest will be followed by a parade through Disneyland. The California State Champions will be invited to perform in the Anaheim Halloween parade Saturday, Oct. 29. Calliope To Lead Whetmore Parade Campaign tunes played on a circus calliope will tell residents of six Orange County communities that the "Caravan For Whetmore" is coming Saturday, Oct. 22. North Orange County Young Republicans on that day will stage an all day parade thru Westminster, Stanton, Los Alamitos, Buena Park, Anaheim and Placentia. Honoring James Whetmore, Republican candidate for Assembly in the 75th District, decorated cars will form at 9 a.m. at Garden Grove Republican Headquarters, 9812 Garden Grove Blvd. The Assembly aspirant will lead the parade, with his wife Ann, and daughters, Karen and Patsy. According to Harry Johnson, co-ordinator of the day-long event, the parade will go from Garden Grove through Westminsted, Stanton and Los Alamitos. In Buena Park and in Anaheim, Young Republican units from those cities will join Hanna Dinner Sunday Night Assemblyman Richard Hanna will be the host guest at an Election Dinner Sunday evening, Oct. 23, p.m. at the Carpenters Hall, 608 West Vermont, heim. One Act Play Festival Plans In Progress Robert Blaustone, drama speech instructor at Santa Ana College, has assumed the chairmanship of the third annual Footlight Festival of One-Act Plays to be presented in Phillips Hall of the college next April 5, 6, 7. Nine community theater groups are cooperating in the advance planning for the drama festival, aided by the SAC College Players. Blaustone succeeds Miss Irene Adams, immediate past president of the Santa Ana Community Players, whose recent marriage and plans for extensive travel has prompted her to turn over the coordination of the festival to Blaustone. Groups working on the project include the Orange Theatre Guild (formerly the Anaheim Theatre Guild), Fairmont Group of Anaheim, Fullerton Footlighters, Laguna Beach Community Players, Ltd., Lido Isle Players, Newport Harbor Community Players, San Clemente Community Theatre, Santa Ana Community Players and Theatre As You Like It of Garden Grove. SAC Drama Chairman Lee Ford will obtain the festival judges and Mrs. Margaret Boyd by the Velero's radar in preliminary studies of the coastal winds by USC scientists and personnel of the U.S. Weather Bureau. The deadline for submission of plays is Jan. 1, Blaustone announced. They will be divided between serious and comedy types, with a trophy going to the best in each category. Neukom, is a freshman at ASU majoring in Spanish.
