BUICK'S NEW LIGHTWEIGHT SPECIAL
Big car comfort and styling are combined with the economy of the small car in Buick's new lightweight Special four-door sedan, powered by the first American aluminum V-8 engine in the automobile industry. The Special is mounted on a 112-inch wheelbase, is 188 inches long and weighs only 2,700 pounds, some 1,600 pounds lighter than conventional-size Buicks. Its high compression V-8 engine develops 155 horsepower giving it outstanding performance compared to the bigger models in the Buick line. The Special comes in two body styles, a four-door sedan and a four-door wagon, with a deluxe versatility offered in each. A new dual-path turbine drive transmission is offered as optional equipment along with power steering, and air-conditioning.

Labor Endorses Proposition 15
Action of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO, in endorsing Proposition 15 was hailed today by Howard F. Cook of Pasadena, county chairman of the Committee for Senate Reapportionment—Yes on 15, as "the joining of labor and industry in a winning crusade to bring a more representative state government to California."
Labor's endorsement coming after the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and other business and civic groups had spearheaded the drive for reapportionment, "makes crystal clear that Proposition 15 has won widespread support insuring its adoption at the Nov. 8 general election," Cook declared.
"It marks a major breakthrough against the barrage of false propaganda that has been leveled against the Southland because the people of this section are insistent upon better representation in the State Senate.
"Proposition 15 is a modest bill," Cook said. "Many people who are voting for it are disappointed because it does not place representation on a strict population basis like Oregon did when that state's constitution was modernized a few years ago.
"Basing the Senate on population would result in 28 senators from the South and 12 from the North, exactly the reverse of present representation which is 28 to 12 in favor of the North," he said. "It would open Proposition 15 to criticism that the Southland, because of its larger population, is attempting to dominate the Senate."
Such an accusation could not be further from the truth when Practical-Minded
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever," said a poet long ago. Today's practical-minded home buyer would agree, but he would add a line to make it read, "A thing of beauty is a joy forever IF it lasts the life of a house." Home buyers have learned to judge dwellings not only by how they look, but also by how well they are made and what materials were used. New textures in manufactured color stucco wall and ceiling finishes provide the ways and means for a home owner to give rooms, and building, an entirely new type of individualized beauty, smart styling and lasting value.
BEST IS CHEAPEST
Using inferior materials in your present home because some day you may want something better can be a costly mistake, a spokesman for the Hardwood Flooring Council of Southern California points out. When it comes time to sell, worn and shabby materials may have to be replaced or the selling price lowered.
areas the adequate representation they lack now. The densely populated and highly industrial San Francisco Bay and Los Angeles metropolitan areas will have 17 Senators. Agriculture and the balance of the state, representing 37 per cent of the people, will have 23.”
