I went with friends and really had a ball ... The atmosphere at THE REEF is "out of this world" ... continuous entertainment from 7 p.m. on ... This was a Luau ... with everything ... I can't think of anything that could have made it better ... Beautiful Hawaiian Music, hula and polynesian dances ... (such as the knife dance) ... The feast was served buffet style with all the food as many times as you wanted it ... Fish & beef on a stick, barbequed pork, fried chicken; salads, fruits rice ... cocount pudding, punch and so many things that I don't even know the name of ... Everything was so delectible just as all the food served at the exotic REEF ... all the time ... You should have seen the get-ups worn by the crowd ... Free hats and leis were given to all ... We sat at a low table on the ground; on reed mats ... I ordered one of my favorite rum concoctions "The Scorpian" with a real Gardenia (That you can wear) floating on top ... all the tables were decorated with fresh pineapples and many other fruits (for eating too). They left nothing undone to make this one of the best ... Another is planned for late October and I will be there ... this was so much fun ... Our debonair host was Tommie Noh ... After we left the REEF ... We decided to make a Tropical nite of it ... So we ambled down to DON MAYS LEILANI HUT in Belmont Shore ... There ... We were pleasingly entertained by that versatile gentleman at the guitar and harmonica (played at the same time) Dave Gare ... This fellow is terrific ... The food at THE LEILANI HUT is wonderful whether it be Cantonese or American ... The Chef is one of the best "Ray Lee" He has been here over 18 years ... We were excellently served by Norma Herron ... This gal is one of my favorite people ... Your charming host is Don May "of Course" ... After THE LEILANI HUT, we traveled down the Coast hwy. to the Beautiful HAWAIIAN also in Long Beach ... and we were kept in that wonderful mood by the lilting island music of the Al McIntire Trio with Eddie Bush and George Kainapau ... Dining at the HAWAIIAN is a treat that you shouldn't miss ... both Polynesian and American ... I dine here often ... Lunches here are great ... A Fashion Show is featured on Tues. noon and Wed. Thursday evening we stopped at HAL GREGGS STEAK HOUSE on Magnolia in Anaheim ... this is a beautiful dining out spot ... Owned by that handsome ex-Dodger Star Ral Gregg ... We danced to music of The Lyle Odden Quartet ... A superior group for listening or dancing ... They have just signed to record for RCA ... The food at HAL GREGGS is superb and they specialize in steaks broiled to perfection ... Bring the kids too as they have children plates from $1.50 ... for a nite that you will enjoy ... Remember the name HAL GREGGS STEAK HOUSE ... One of my favorite dining spots in Long Beach is APPLE VALLEY STEAK HOUSE on Broadway ...
