Quite an interesting matter to scientists is the recent ascent of Mt. San Bernardino by W. A. Goodyear, of the state geological survey. Mr. Goodyear made observations and examinations from which to calculate the height of the mountain. He has not yet completed his observations at last accounts, but as near as he could then tell, it is about 11,000 feet, and an adjoining peak, known as "Old Gray Back", he estimated to be about 800 feet higher. The ascent was made on Sunday last. At noon, on the top of the mountain, the weather was extremely cold, the thermometer registering 32 degrees.

Growth
Creating growth is the $105,998 increase in savings recorded the first eight months of this year. Howard Ahmanson, chair of the board, reported this is a 72% greater savings gain than the association reported for the like eight months of last year. Total savings held by Home at the end of last month reached $717,391,508, representing over 250,000 savers.
"Home Savings' growth is particularly significant in that it points up the increasingly important role that it and similar institutions are playing in the lives of Californians, both savers and home owners," Ahmanson said.
