Children's Hospital Fund Drive Gaining Momentum
Shifting into high gear, the campaign fund drive for the Orange County Children's Hospital hit the $300,000 mark as volunteer workers picked up the pace in this third week of solicitation for the badly needed medical center.
Edmund B. Buster, leading Orange County industrialist, stressed the importance of having a well-equipped children's hospital, saying, "The day will come when you will need the services of a hospital for your child."
"As both a father and employer, I cannot over-emphasize the importance of a well-equipped children's hospital for use by my own family and the families of my employees."
"The day when a hospital is needed for your child will more than likely come at a most inopportune time... or it may be a day planned for far in advance... but whenever that day is, it could be the most important day in your child's life."
"Chances are one in three that a member of your family will require hospital care within the next 12 months. Will there be a bed and the necessary facilities there to meet your child's needs?"
Dr. Samuel J. Camarata, prominent county physician and business man, also stressed the need of a children's hospital, saying that a gift to the campaign is not only a gift to charity, but an investment in health protection for
Chances are one in three that a member of your family will require hospital care within the next 12 months. Will there be a bed and the necessary facilities there to meet your child's needs?
Dr. Samuel J. Camarata, prominent county physician and business man, also stressed the need of a children's hospital, saying that a gift to the campaign is not only a gift to charity, but an investment in health protection for our children.
"Although we have a limited time to raise the required $800,000 matching funds for our two million dollar facility," he said, "most of us realize the need all too well. A hospital is one of civilization's most enduring situations. Generations march through its corridors, they see joy and sorrow, life and death.
"I believe that our goal can be reached. This job can be done—and on time. The job calls for sacrificial giving with pledges extending over the three-year period."
The lovely Nandina—Heavenly Bamboo to most of us—will be putting on a good show during the coming weeks of fall. In most areas of the State, its foliage turns lovely shades of crimson and its berries follow suit. The bamboo-like appearance of Nandina can be emphasized with some judicious pruning on the part of gardeners: Don't be half way about it. Canes that have grown too tall or too thick should be cut to the ground. Canes left will thus be less crowded, more graceful.
