Campus Forecast
Cropped, waist-length jackets continue in popularity for campus wear; look best with full, shaped skirts, look newest with bias cuts or gentle fit. Bulk in addition to length is an important feature of sweaters. Beefy, three-dimensional knits and brushed surfaces contribute to the massive look of sweaters. Large collars and cowl necklines distinguish many styles.
Knit dresses, costumes, still riding the crest of their popularity wave, are seen mostly in flat gauges, according to Women's Wear Daily. Tweed-like textures, matelasses, even knit brocades are seen in many collections. Styling museum.

College Fashions
Stress Elegance
In Casual Way
Fall 1960 college collections literally shout with color; provocative silhouettes are designed with a casual elegance; new and interesting "fun" items are equally appropriate for campus or at-home wear, and wonderful fabrics which stress texture and bold patterns. This is the picture presented by the fashion editors of Women's Wear Daily after reviewing manufacturers' new lines of college styles.
Fluid and easy best describe fall college sportswear silhouettes. There's a general ease everywhere, giving skirts, jackets and tops new forms. Skirts have softened, controlled fullness. They vary from moderately eased slim styles to pleats, emphasizing creased varieties. In between there are dirndls, blas plaids, shaped flares and hip-stitched pleats. Important details on skirts include big, chunky buttons, oversize pockets and sash belts.
