Mostly a collection of photos, some of them rare, about the silent screen days with a section of famous stars of the silent era in photos and biographical sketch. FALLOUT by John Fowler (editor). Easy to read articles by scientists about atom bombs, radiation, protection, treatment, civil defense, effects upon future generations. THE GOOD YEARS by Walter Lord. Author skillfully retells history in "the days of the peacock" era from 1900 to the first world war. Written in a lively style with many good photos. A CONCISE HISTORY OF MODERN PAINTING by Herbert Read. A popular history of the va- City Council Renews Trash Pickup Bids The city council renewed the residential and commercial trash pickup contracts with two different companies, costing an estimated $28,400. The J. Cox Construction Co. received a contract renewal for $23,400 to serve 26,000 residential units. The per unit cost is 90 cents. The contract will end June 32, 1962.
