North Orange County YMCA Fund Campaign Nets $255,103 Total The North Orange County YMCA reported total victory in its drive for $350,000 in building funds. The YMCA will construct an elaborate headquarters, gymnasium and in-and-out youth and YMCA facilities on Harbor Blvd. (North Fullerton) as the first step in building program which will eventually see YMCA homes in other north county communities. The building fund drive netted a total of $255,103 in subscriptions, which surpassed the first primary goal of $250,000 set at the beginning of the drive last spring. The $350,000 goal, Hixon told YMCA workers at a victory dinner, was the "secondary" goal, and the YMCA expects additional subscriptions to bring the tally to this figure before the end of the year. Actual goal of the north county organization is the final construction of four YMCA buildings in the north county area, at an estimated cost of $800,000. Another proposition presented was the furnishing of teacher aides to English teachers in grades 9-12 who teach college preparatory English. The aides would be assigned to the classrooms to assist teachers in correcting English compositions. The present proposal asks the district to spend an amount not to exceed $15,000 for the employment of these teacher aides during the coming school year. A resolution approving purchase of 24 acres from the Providence Farming Co. for $326.50 for the Ball Junior High School site was adopted by the board. New Program Set Marines Build Men The Marine Corps builds men! Men with strong bodies, skilled hands, and alert minds. From the very first day a young man enters the Marine Corps, his training is designed to develop these basic elements of a Marine. And because he is physically rugged, mentally alert, and skilled in the ways of a Marine, he is capable of meeting any situation with confidence and self-reliance. His training has made him that way. That's why the Marines say, "No other training builds better men or develops greater leaders." Be a Marine yourself. Visit the local recruiting office at 630 N. Los Angeles St., Anaheim. Minto has held other government housing jobs recently. He was sworn in by Rep. J. Arthur Younger (R-Calif.). The program became effective last week when President Eisenhower signed a $20 million appropriation bill. Housing Administrator Norman Mason pointed out that the projects must be built in widely scattered locations throughout the country in both large and small cities. They will be designed for independent occupancy as well as for group living. Home Loan Program Extended for GI The extension of the GI home loan program will result in a new spurt of homebuilding, according to Ray Cherry, president of the Home Builders Association. The GI home loan program was to expire July 25 but was extended for two years by President Eisenhower. Chester Henry, loan guarantee officer of the Veterans Administration office service Southern California and western Nevada, said his office alone has guaranteed 385,000 home loans for veterans of World War II. There are 1,350,000 eligible veterans of World War II now living in California and about 635,000 of the employment of these teachers aides during the coming school year. A resolution approving purchase of 24 acres from the Providence Farming Co. for $326.50 for the Ball Junior High School site was adopted by the board.
