Sermon written by Lt. Frank Brown, Officer in Charge of the Anaheim Corps of The Salvation Army, 129 E. Cypress The text for this sermon is found in Romans, the 8th chapter, the 32nd through the 39th verses. "He that spared not His own son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect? Is it God that justifieth? Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us. Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, tha tneither death, nor life, no suaded, that neither death, nor life, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." The ancient Greeks looked around themselves and saw the earth and its phenomena. They saw there a mystery, so they worshiped these things. The Hebrew did not do this; they began with the belief in a god as being the source of all things, which included the earth and its phenomena. Rather than worship the things in nature around them, they worshiped a living God. Does this God exist that they worshiped? Let us look at those things the Greeks of a superior being. This becomes evident by a study of the people of the world. We see that since recorded history most nations and tribes have had some type of worship of a god. Some of these have never heard of Christianity or any other of the great religions of today, but still they worship. Many do not worship the same as we, or even the same god; yet they all feel the same need. This is another of the mounting proofs that God does exist. As Christians it should be our purpose to tell all men of the true and living God that we know. What does your conscience tell you of God? When we stop and turn our thoughts to spiritual things, most would say with conviction that they believe in God, that he is the creator of this world, that he created man, and all things that we have in nature. Now we turn to the book that we consider to be God's word, the Bible. It has come down to us through many centuries to tell us of the God that we believe to exist. As we take this book and read it we learn of this God, and how He expects us, his creation, to live. The question might be asked, how can you prove that this is God's word? A very simple but direct answer is, look at the prophecy. There are many that have been fulfilled and are contained in the Bible. Some have been fulfilled in our own time, and some are yet to be. Does this help to prove that the Bible is God's word? This helps us to realize the importance of doing what He wants. So now we are convinced that there is a God, and that the Bible is His word. Now, what is my responsibility to Him? Through reading we learn that because of our sins against God, Jesus Christ dies The ancient Greeks looked around themselves and saw the earth and its phenomena. They saw there a mystery, so they worshiped these things. The Hebrew did not do this; they began with the belief in a god as being the source of all things, which included the earth and its phenomena. Rather than worship the things in nature around them, they worshiped a living God. Does this God exist that they worshiped? Let us look at those things the Greeks worshiped, nature. We can see that certainly someone had to create these things. We see the tree that grows, and the flower that blooms, these show the order that a god put into effect. Consider what it would be like if there were no order in nature around us; you might plant a radish or a carrot seed, and get a thistle instead. You could not be sure of getting what you planted. Thank God that there is order and we do get what is planted. Since we can see the force of God at work in nature, let us look at one of His creation, man. We are a remarkable creature that God has made. We have been able to advance in many ways since the first man was placed on earth. In man, God has placed in his soul the knowledge There are many that have been fulfilled and are contained in the Bible. Some have been fulfilled in our own time, and some are yet to be. Does this help to prove that the Bible is God's word? This helps us to realize the importance of doing what He wants. So now we are convinced that there is a God, and that the Bible is His word. Now, what is my responsibility to Him? Through reading we learn that because of our sins against God, Jesus Christ dies on the cross. This was to make the atone ment, or to purchase our Salvation. The Bible further tells us, in Acts 3:19, that we must repent and have our sins forgiven, so that we might come to God without spot or blemish. When these requirements are fulfilled then we are to continue to live as Christ has instructed by His teachings in the New Testament. This is as much a part of the order of God's world as the sun shining in the day, and all the rest of the functions of God's creation. When these requirements are kept, then nothing can keep us from the love of God. This is the reason for our creation; to love and serve God. LET NOTHING SEPARATE YOU FROM THE LOVE OF GOD! AMEN.
