THE WOMAN'S WORLD Section B, Page 1 HERE AND THERE By GINNIE BODNER TWO OUTSTANDING EVENTS vie for top honors this week. GRADUATION ceremonies and FATHERS DAY this Sunday. Commencement exercises for both Anaheim and Western High Schools will take place tonight at La Palma Stadium. Marywood Catholic High School held their graduation program last Sunday with 59 members receiving diplomas. Marywood senior, Carol Zamora of Anaheim, was awarded a scholarship to Holy Names College. Western High's Craig Finefrock received appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy; Gerald Holmes, to the U.S. Air Force Academy and Leroy McNutt to Yale University. Linda Jo Parish, 2015 Minerva Avenue, Anaheim, won a University of California at Los Angeles Alumni scholarship to UCLA. Well... here's to the class of 1960! May they find prosperous and wonderful years ahead... one who has lived in OC for 6 months at any time is an old-timer... and that takes in just about everybody. WITH THE HUSTLE and bustle of activities about town, perhaps we should remind our readers that it's Cherry, Pickin' time in the Beaumont and Cherry Valley region. U-Pickers from all over are finding an abundance of this luscious fruit in this beautiful cherry center. Lunch facilities are provided for by most growers... Week day pickings are recommended to avoid the week end rush. MRS. CORA WEBB of 539 W. Broadway, Anaheim, spent a recent weekend enjoying the delicious Danish cuisine and hot springs facilities at Springborg's Glen Ivy Hot Springs in Corona. LOCAL FISHING enthusiasts will be happy to learn that the annual Orange County fishing derby started Saturday and will run Leaders Fete 'Mr. Willis Warner, at Former Orange County Board of Supervisors Chairman Willis Warner, known as "Mr. Orange County," was feted by 500 of the area's governmental, commercial and social leaders Friday at Newport Beach. The testimonial dinner was under auspices of the Orange County Associated Chambers of Commerce. ACCOLADES were matched with gifts. The Orange County Engineers' Club, noting that he had graduated as a civil engineer, made him an honorary member. The County Employees' Assn. gave him a hi-fi transistor radio, and the Association presented a color television on behalf of the diners. State Sen. John A. PERHAPS THE hub-bub of graduation activities will subside enough by the end of the week to let Dad get into the act to get his share of honors this Sunday, FATHERS DAY. Several of the 'off-beat" studio type cards depict Dad as he really is: "To Dad who is always calm, cool and . . . collected from!" and, "To good ol' Pop . . . Happy Pauper's Day." WELL, ITLL be reunion time in Orange County, Sunday, June 26 when approximately 2 to 3,000 old timers will assemble at Irvine Park for a day of picnicking and reminiscing about the good old days. Lindacita Lane, Anaheim, is serving aboard the attack aircraft carrier USS Coral Sea currently undergoing operational training exercises off the coast of So. Calif. Shawver and Linda Gail Hatfield of Anaheim Union High School have been named to receive the Martha Schoepe Memorial Foundation Scholarships awarded annually to outstanding seniors. A minimum of two scholarships are awarded, one to an engineering student and another to an elementary teaching student. Bruce was President of the Anaheim High School Physical Science Club and in this capacity assisted during his senior year in producing the Science Education programs on closed circuit TV in the Anaheim Elementary School System. He has been awarded many science and academic achievement honors. Bruce plans on attending University of California at Berkeley. LINDA HAS BEEN an outstanding student and a member of the Honor Society for three years. She has been very active in choral groups and church groups. VFW Auxiliary Presents Awards Honors awarded Anaheim VFW Auxiliary in the recent district meeting were given out to individual winners in a meeting of the auxiliary last week. The report was given by Opal Walter, while Mrs. Anne Stakemiller presided. Elizabeth Aldrich and Ivy Ryan received citations for nine consecutive years of volunteer work at Long Beach Veterans Hospital, while Velda King and Adaline Schroeder were honored for 300 hours of service. Mrs. Schroeder also received a citation from VFW National Home. The Anaheim auxiliary also received a unit citation from the Long Beach Veterans Hospital for the volunteer services of all members. Hostesses for the meeting were Mrs. King and Mrs. Mollie Claes. Garden Club Calls Pot Luck Luncheon Members of the Anaheim Garden Club will hold a potluck luncheon and card party on Friday, June 17, at Peek Family Colonial Terrace Room in Midway City. Art Chairman Frances Egge and instructor Peter Raven have arranged the showing, which includes art craft, ceramics, mosaics, painting, drawing design, and creative and representative art. Many of the students are pre-teaching majors and will use their art skills in the classroom. Others have professional aims and will continue their training at art schools and college. The exhibit will continue to the end of the semester in mid-June. Hours are 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays, and Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evening, 7 to 9 p.m. The Gallery is on the 17th and Bristol Sts. campus, directly west of Phillips Hall in approaching from the east, or directly south of the Administration Building. Among the exhibitors is Veneta Parresk of Anaheim. VFW, Auxiliary Set Card Party, Dinner In 1877 Lt. W. N.
