C. 1960 WINNER Soroptimists Award Scholarship To Ann Louise Davis of Anaheim 1960 WINNER Soroptimists Award Scholarship To Ann Louise Davis of Anaheim Miss Anne Louise Davis is winner of the 1960 nursing scholarship awarded by Anaheim Soroptimist Club. She received the scholarship in the annual award dinner May 24 at 7:30 p.m. in Disneyland Hotel. Miss Davis, daughter of Mrs. Frances J. Davis, 874 S. Philadelphia St., Anaheim, is a senior at Anaheim Union High School. In addition to being an "A" student, Anne has been a member of the Honor Society, Majorettes, Sub-Deb Service Club, Mozart Choir and the Pep Club. The aim of the scholarship is to encourage young women in Anaheim School District to enter the nursing profession by making available a two-year $1,200 scholarship to a recognized nursing school of their choice. Other awards will be a check for $600 to the Cripped Children and Adults Rehabilitation Center of Orange County. This will be presented to Robert Williams, executive director of the center. Mrs. Mary Campbell, president of the Anaheim Chapter of the American Field Service, will receive $100 for use in the foreign exchange student program. Guests also included Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pearson, Johnny Zillis from Crippled Children's Center, and Miss Glenda Simonton, winner of the '57 Nurses scholarship. President Mary Cove emceed the affair. Members serving on the committee are Miss Betty Brandt, Dr. May Rich, co-chairmen; Mmes. Grace Finefrock, Phyllis Schroeder, Alice Scoby, Mrge Wedel, and Jerry Bennett. Social drinkers can be real accident makers, the National Safety Council. Anniversary Noted By Sons of Italy The Anaheim Sons of Italy Lodge No. 2076 held their second anniversary banquet at the Anaheim Bowl. Pat Holiday, recording star, was master of ceremonies. He introduced and sang his latest song, "Jiminy Christmas." Entertainers were tap dancer, Dennis Tazza; singer, Jackie Anstett; concert pianist, Joey Jencks; Mozart choir, Anaheim Union High School and 14-year-old singer, Mel Arkelain, who is with the Mitchell choir. Vina Marsh was piano accompanist. DISTINGUISHED guests were introduced by Al Scall, Venerable of the Anaheim Lodge. Guests were Daniel D'Amico, Second Assistant Grand Venerable of the Sons of Italy, Grand Lodge of California and his wife. Frank Fraumeni, grand deputy of the Anaheim Lodge. Peter D'Santis, chairman of the United Lodges. Frank Di Liberto, grand trustee of So. Calif. and his wife, of the Grand Lodge, the Rev. Cornelius Jani and the Rev. Raphael Toner of La Purisima Mission in El Modena and the Anaheim Lodges Queen, Clementina Capparelli. Tommy Groh and his orchestra furnished music for dancing. Activities centered about the Disneyland Hotel, the convention headquarters. Among the many dignitaries attending were His name, James Francis Cardinal Intyre, Archbishop of Os Angeles; Auxiliary Bishops of the Rev. shrdlu cmfwyp etaoin nn vs Angeles Archdioces, the Most Rev. Alden Bell and Timothy Manning; and the Auxiliary Bishop of Fresno-Monterey Diocese, Most Rev. Harry Clinch. Also in attendance was Luke E. Hart, Supreme Knight from New Haven, Conn. This marked the first time in more than 40 years that a Supreme Knight has attended a convention. PRESIDING at the convention was State Deputy Harry Reeves. Important matters of both factional and civic importance was discussed at the business meetings which was attended by delegates from 233 Councils of the Orders, representing the entire State of California. The convention adopted a resolution urging the Congress to restore benefits to private education in the bill. Bandleader awrence Welk received a special award at the meeting in recognition of his "wholesome family entertainment." It was unanimously agreed that this was the largest and best-attended State Council Knights of Columbus convention in the history of the Jurisdiction. The Rev. Seward Bean solemnized the double ring vows, April 27, before 25 guests. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Karis, and the bride-groom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Dean Jarvis all of North Platte, Nebraska. A rental of $14,000 gets the group admission to the park and unlimited turns on all rides. Trustee Ed Daly, was convention general chairman. A huge luau was held to mark the closing of the convention. ESQORTED by her father, the bride appeared in a gown of rose-point lace and tulle over satin. A scalloped neckline highlighted by sequins, and long tapered sleeves were features of the basque waist, and the bouffant skirt was fashioned with an apron of lace that hung to the hem in a French pouf. Cscades of tulle ruffles formed a chapel train. A pearl tiara held the bride's veil, and she carried a white satin prayer book with an orchid nested in a rosepoint lace circlette.
