DINING & ON THE GO with DORIS The KETTLE RESTAURANT certainly lives up to its motto, "Anaheim's Landmark Devoted to Good Eating." This restaurant excels (whether it be luncheon, dinner, or cocktails). Tony Bright entertains nightly. This very versatile gentleman plays the piano, accordion and vibes. The KETTLE is one of my favorite luncheon spots as their menu is large and the prices attractive. Your debonair host is "Doc" Bila. On Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach is the HARBOR HOUSE, one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. They have about every type of fish you could wish for, including many specialties such as steamed clams, oysters rockefeller, crab curry with rice and chutney. They also have many non-ocean items to choose from such as steak, chicken, etc. A favorite dinner of mine is the HARBOR HOUSE platter with assorted seafoods. I enjoy eating here very much and do it often. This is also a fine family restaurant with dinners for children at $1.50. If it's fish you wish, you'll go wrong at the HARBOR HOUSE. Friendly Ron Dearden is your host. ON THE GO CALENDAR Edwards Air Force Base: The Antelope Valley flight test center will hold open house May 22 and 23. Displays, including the X-15, are open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Flying demonstration start at 1 p.m. El Cajon: Eastern San Diego County Fair is May 25 through May 27 at Gillespie Field. Friendly Ron Dearden is your host. A few weeks ago I recommended HAL GREGG'S STEAK HOUSE to some friends of mine. They really had a ball and have gone back three times. This top dining and entertainment spot features the Lyle Odden Trio for your listening and dancing pleasure. The food is fine whether it be for a snack, cocktails, or a complete dinner. Hal Gregg, that handsome ex-Douger star, is your host. Have you noticed the menu in the VICTOR HUGO ad? This beautiful restaurant gives you the finest at a very reasonable price. They have many delicious entrees to choose from (besides the ones listed in the ad). One of my favorites is beef stroganoff with rice pilaf. Served with mixed green salad, garlic bread and beverage. All for the low price of $2.10. Children's dinners are $1.25 with a wide variety of entrees (such as turkey, prime ribs, chops, etc.). You'll be entertained nightly by that talented TV star, Danny Andrews. Your host is Lou Furst. Tea dancing every afternoon at ANSTAY'S STEAK HOUSE is lots of fun. Others must agree as Stan Rossi is packing them in daily. Stop for lunch and plan to spend the afternoon. The fabulous Kusso Brothers are playing for your dancing and listening enjoyment nightly. These boys are really terrific. ANSTAY'S STEAK HOUSE is still featuring those $2.50 top sirioin dinners (with all the trimmings) for $2.00. I had dinner there recently and the steak was really tender. Stop in at ANSTAYS and say hello to Bert and Stan. You'll have a ball. The GYPSY CELLAR in Balboa is one of the cutest restaurant-bars in the area. The menu is the most. You can have steaks that will please the most discriminating of gourmets. But if you're like me and prefer things that are different, try their scrumpious sauted foods (such as marinated pork steak with wild rice and mushrooms). Or perhaps you'd like the Scandinavian special topped with crab meat and bournaise sauce. All these dinners at Ann and Carl Matias' GYPSY CELLAR include soup, salad, risin dish, potatoes and beverage. Stop here at this romantic spot and wince enjoying these tempting concoctions, you'll be pleasingly entertained by Pat O'Dare, a very talented organist. Remember the GYPSY CELLAR for a delightful evening on the go. One of my favorite dinners at the BRANDING IRON in Orange is the grenadine or beef served Monday thru Thursday. This delectable dinner is cooked in delicious mushroom and wine sauce. Kent Backart, FJC chemistry instructor, has been awarded an Atomic Energy Commission fellowship at Pennsylvania State University for a two-month period, six weeks to be spent at the University and two weeks at the Argonne Laboratories in Chicago. Willis, a life science instructor, has a National Science Foundation grant for eight weeks at the University of Washington. With the purpose of studying radiological biology, his group will spend part of the period on the college campus and the rest in laboratories at the Hanford Atomic Energy plant.
