Maurice E. Arnold, fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. William E. Arnold of 960 S. Philadelphia St., Anaheim, is aboard the destroyer USS Samuel R. Boberts for a seven-month tour of duty with the U.S. Sixth Fleet in the Mediterranean.
Besides participating in various operational exercises the Roberts and her crew will visit Spain, France, Italy and Greece.
Clay F. Wallace, Jr., fireman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clay Wallace of 2730 Crescent Ave., Anaheim, took part in a huge amphibious landing exercise, while serving aboard the attack cargo ship USS Merrick.
The exercise, termed "Operation Blue Star," called for all participating units to assemble in the area, March 20, along with Marine units based in the Far East and U.S.-Republic of China navy, marine and air force elements.
Marine Pvt. Charles M. Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hughlan C. Chapman of 243 Susanne St., Anaheim has graduated from the
350 Scouters Plant Trees in Mountains
More than 350 Scouts and leaders from Northern Orange County Council, BSA, have participated in a conservation tree planting project in the Santa Ana Mountains since July 23, this year, and have planted 6,000 Monterey pines and 1,000 cedar seedlings.
Overall supervising of the projects were District Rangers Hess and Grant of the U.S. Forest Service, and Walt Rissterer, coordinator of the Northern Orange County Council.
WORK OF BOTH tree planting and soil erosion control was done in the extreme upper end of Trabuco Canyon at the base of Santiago Peak, El Cariso guard station on Ortega Highway and the Maple Springs area in Silverado Canyon.
The following troops participated: Troop 88, sponsored by the Anaheim Chapter, Izaak Walton League; and Troops 19, 72, 65, 1, 55, 65, 80, and 12.

Marine Pvt. Charles M. Chapman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hughlan C. Chapman of 243 Susanne St., Anaheim, has graduated from the Radio Relay Operators course at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, Calif.
The five-week course included instruction in basic electricity and operation of field radio equipment.
Aviation Officer Candidate Paul E. Grover, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul F. Grover of 516 N. Bush St., Anaheim, is undergoing pre-flight training at the Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.
During the ten weeks of training students are instructed in aviation science, navigation, principles of flight, and other technical course to prepare them for their future roles as naval aviators.
Upon completion of Pre-Flight students undergo primary flight training at Saufley Field, also at Pensacola.

Combat Information Center School, Brunswick, Ga.
The Combat Information Center School trains officers and enlisted men of the Navy in the use of airborne and shipboard radar for our nation's early warning defense system.
Before entering the Navy in December 1948, Ens. Sieg attended Chapman College.
Army Pvt. Gary W. Griebel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell W. Griebel, 2740 W. Bridgeport Ave., Anaheim, Calif., has arrived in Germany and is now a member of the 73rd Artillery.
Griebel, a clerk in the artillery's Battery A in Hanau, entered the Army last September and received basic training at Fort Ord, Calif.
The 17-year-old soldier attended Western High School and was employed by Western Union in Anaheim before entering the Army.

The exercise, termed "Operation Blue Star," called for the Third Marine Division to assemble in the area on March 20 along with units of the Hawaii-based First Marine Brigade and U.S.-Republic of China Navy, marine and air force elements.
Purpose of the operation, which comprised over 18,000 Marines and 70 Navy ships, was to promote closer working relations between U.S. and Republic of China forces in practicing the conventional and vertical assault type amphibious landings.
