Science on the Farm
2900 B.C.—the Chinese used pig as a scavenger. Then they discovered its meat was good to eat. But Pop only brought home a bacon if he accidentally came upon a stray hog. The thought of g-raising to provide pork for the daily diet didn't occur till much later.
With the growing popularity of pork in 19th Century America, pig-raising became a profitable business—if you were lucky. Ignorance of proper care and feeding meant many unhealthy swine. Transportation was crude and the trek to market was hard on hogs and profits.
Today's hog raisers have the benefits of science and manual know-how. At their disposal are carefully blended feeds fortified with Terramyin; better breeding methods; proper housing, equipment, health practices, and rapid transportation. It all adds up to a life cycle management concept that can mean at least one extra ton of pork from every 10 sows per year.
Spring Art Show
At FJC Opened
A Spring art exhibit showing Fullerton Junior College student art work in freehand drawing, design and color, painting, ceramics and crafts which opened in the college Exhibit Hall on Friday, will continue through May 26.
The Exhibit Hall, located in the Art-Home Economics Building on Chapman Avenue, is open on school days each day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The public is invited.
The exhibit will culminate on May 24 with an auction of student art work, with students and townspeople invited to bid on all art work shown.

Students Awarded Divisional Prizes
Eight outstanding technical education students won divisional awards at the annual Vocational Day held at Fullerton Junior College on Wednesday, April 27.
Awards went to Richard Voelkel, drafting; Paul H. McCay, printing; and Robert Simmons, industrial management; representing the Anaheim area.
Awards were presented during a morning program in the college Student Center attended by 350 technical education representatives and approximately 50 local businessmen. Featured speaker at the morning general assembly session was John F. Beau, group leader with the test engineering group of the inertial navigation department of Autonetics, who spoke on the topic "The Men Behind the Nautilus." A 12-minute film showing the famous trip of the submarine Nautilus under the polar cap was also shown.
Later in the morning students and guests took part in a series of small divisional meetings and field trips to local industry.
