Western High Group Sponsors 'Can-Can' For Annual Benefit
Western High School's A Cappella Choir is sponsoring a special showing of the movie version of Cole Porter's "Can-Can." The feature will be presented Saturday, May 7, at 5 p.m. at the Carthay Circle Theatre in Los Angeles. Tickets are being sold at a special low price by choir members and the Main Office at Western.
"Can-Can" was a popular stage success before being made into the spectacular movie with Frank Sinatra and Shirley MacLaine. Premier Krushchev visited the studio during production and later made several derogatory comments about American movie standards. This feature will not be shown at neighborhood movies.
The A Cappella Choir chose this method of fund raising after noting the success of the Western sponsorship of "Ben-Hur." Two showings were held for the school of the Academy Awards winning epic. Choir members hope to take a Northern California personal appearance tour in mid-May.
Tickets may be procured at Western High School.
