Jack N. Williams, branch manager, has sent invitations to more than 15,000 residents to attend the day-long festivities from 10 a.m. to 9 a.m. Included in each invitation was a key to the treasurer chest. Many of these keys will open the chest, which will be packed with cash prizes and transistor radios. Other keys will be available during the open house.
The Treasure Chest will be delivered to the branch promptly at 10 a.m. on the stagecoach from Knott's Berry Farm. The cowboys will guard the treasurer and escort it to the new Western-style building.
Each guest will be given a sample of the Bank's merchandise. Youngsters whose parents open a savings account of $10 or more can have their pictures taken free of charge on a Shetland pony.
The new Security branch is air conditioned. It offers complete banking services, including checking, savings, safe deposit, escrow and loans. The branch also will feature a drive-in service window.
Parking facilities for 65 cars will be available.
Among the unusual forms of plant life in Madagascar is the traveler's tree, which resembles a tall palm and stores cool, pure water in its crown of leaves.
The California Public Utilities Commission today denied the requests by Southern Counties Gas Company of California and Southern California Gas Company for immediate interim increases in rates to offset higher charges for gas purchased from Pacific Lighting Gas Supply Company, an affiliated utility.
SOUTHERN COUNTIES GAS, which has applied for authority to increase its annual revenues $14,643,000 per year, asked for an interim raise pending final decision on its application, amounting to $1,177,000 on an annual basis. Higher charges of Pacific Lighting Gas Supply Company began January 12, 1960.
The motion for an interim increase was opposed by the Commission staff and the City of Los Angeles.
The Commission's decision said, "The evidence indicates neither a precarious financial condition nor other serious financial position which must be relieved now pending the orderly processes of establishing definitive rates in this proceeding." It added that any interim increase would be in effect only a few months and would raise the utility's rate of return less than 1/10 of 1 per cent.
