Supervisor Bill Phillips Emcees Easter Seal Luncheon Today; Ivy Baker Guest of Honor Supervisor William Phillips, member of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, has been selected to M.C. the 1960 Annual Easter Seal luncheon at the Revere House today, according to Mrs. Louis J. Cella, Jr., of Santa Ana, chairman of the drive to raise funds for the Orange County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Guest speaker for the Easter Seal luncheon will be Honorable Ivy Baker Priest, Treasurer of the United States, who served as the national Easter Seal chairman in 1958. Approximately 200 civic and industrial leaders have been invited to the luncheon, and among the honored guests will be Mrs. Hannah Nixon, mother of Vice-President Nixon, who was born in Yorba Linda. The invocation will be given by the Rev. William J. Barry, assistant director of the Catholic Welfare Bureau for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Father Barry is well known in Orange County as former director of the Catholic Welfare Bureau here. Easter Seals are traditionally sent out at this season to support the various programs of the Orange County Society for Crippled Children and Adults. Pupils Do the Work Why Pay Teachers By BETH KROESEN Speaking of Art Linkletter, who doesn't now and then kids furnish amusing anecdotes for teachers to smile over and relate to friends later. A second grade teacher at Dy singer school told this story the other day. One of her young hopefuls (male) looked up into her face and said earnestly "Why do they pay you a salary for teaching us when we do a work?" On the other hand, perhaps someone could make a fortune if he wrote a book, "Teachers do the darndest things." ANAHEIM GAZETTE ANAHEIM, CALIFORNIA Anaheim To Serve As Experimental City For Integration of Newcomers Anaheim has been selected as the community to test a plan of new methods of integrating newcomers into the social and civic life of the community. The program has been developed by the American Association of University Women. Highlight of the program, which includes a detailed study of the resources and opportunities in Anaheim, will be a "Keys To Our City" convention to be held Sept. 17 at Disneyland Hotel. Thirteen leading Anaheim women and several members of the Fullerton branch of AAUS are in charge of planning the conclave. These "advisers" are Mmes. Rex Coons, Samuel Gendel, Wesley Jones, Ben Kaulbars, Erwin Krsten, Lotus Loudon, R. W. Marvin, Sr., C. Beatty Neighbors, Charles Pearson, Carrie K. Rogers, Carrie Lou Sutherland, Joe Thompson and Foster M. Warwick. Studies are to be made in nine separate fields affecting family life. These are church, health and welfare, youth service, working women, recreation, fine arts, homemaking and recreation. Workshops are being conducted to assimilate information from the various studies. Explaining the philosophy behind the movement Chairman Mrs. Richard D. Lower had this to say. "We thought it would be both fun and worthwhile to provide an opportunity for all interested Anaheim women to get together, take a look at the community, learn about it and find a niche for themselves in its operations." Miss Pharris Wins Stewardess Wings Miss Myrna A. Pharris daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Pharris, 117 Evelyn Dr., has won the silver wings of a United Air Line stewardess. After 4 weeks at the company stewardess training school in Cheyenne, Wyo., she now serves aboard Maidliners flying in and out Los Angeles. Miss Pharris is a graduate of Anaheim High School and Orange Coast College. Her hobbies are water sports, dramas and literature. In becoming a stewardess, Miss Pharris has entered a profession which was pioneered by United and celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Hospital Given Ca Anaheim Xi Gamma Episcopal chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Studies are to be made in nine separate fields affecting family life. These are church, health and welfare, youth service, working women, recreation, fine arts, homemaking and recreation. Workshops are being conducted to assimilate information from the various studies. Delta Gamma Founders’ Day Fete Set Saturday at Hacienda Club Members of the Fullerton-Anaheim Alumnae Assn. of Delta Gamma will be luncheon guests of the Whittier Assn. at Hacienda Country Club, La Habra Saturday. Mrs. Robert W. Anderson will be installed as president of the local association at the founders' day event. Other officers are Mmes. Douglas Wolcott, vice-president; Thomas Domsik and Don Hargrave, secretaries; Bob Thompson, treasurer; Courtney Casebeer, Panhellenic chairman. ‘Pied Pipers’ Hold Dinner Dance Approximately 600 persons (including 75 Orange County couples attended the Pied Pipers dinner dance in the Magnolia Room of Disneyland Hotel Saturday. The affair was sponsored by the Pied Pipers of the North Orange County area. Mrs. Stanley Cramer and the Pied Pipers are a branch of the California Baby's and Children's Hospital Auxiliary. Proceeds from the affair are marked to provide medical treatment for underprivileged children of Southern California. A Latin-American theme, "Flesta," will dominate the table decor, with basket compotes of miniature fruit-laden trees and greenery comprising the centerpieces. The dance area will resemble a tropical garden, with palms and other plants providing atmosphere. Honorary patrons include Vice President and Mrs. Richard Polio Clinics Process 6,000 Or. Countians Orange County family polio clinics have innoculated more than 6,000 persons so far in a campaign that closes Aug. 26, according to Health Officer Dr. Edward Lee Russell. Hospital Given Cart Anaheim Xl Gamma Epsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi has Mrs. I. C. Chapman Named Veep Of North County Y Building Fund Mrs. Irvin C. Chapman of Fullerton was named Executive Vice Chairman of the Woman's Division of the North Orange County YMCA Building Fund Drive this week by Joe Johnson, General Campaign Manager, and Adolf Schoepe, Chairman of the Executive Committee. Mrs. Chapman's first job in the position will be to appoint community chairmen for each of the six communities in the North Orange County area, according to Johnson. Each of the six community leaders will in turn appoint and recruit workers in each community, he said. "Formation of the Woman's Division is another step toward formation of the total structure in the campaign organization," Johnson said. He explained that the drive slated for April and May is designed to build the YMCA a home in this area. He said that many smaller cities in Orange Linda and Brea.
