Six Posts Open In Ballot Contest
The June 7 primary ballot in Orange County will feature two supervisorial and four legislative contests.
Facing re-election tests on the Board of Supervisors will be William J. Phillips of Fullerton of the third district and C. M. Featherly, chairman of the board, of Santa Ana and the first district.
The third district includes Anaheim.
James B. Utt of Santa Ana will seek re-election to the U. S. House of Representatives from the 28th district in the only local federal contest.
State legislative offices of State Senator John Murdy Jr.; 75th District Assemblyman Richard Hanna and 74th District Assemblyman Bruce Sumner will be on the ballot.
Hanna represent the Anaheim area and most of Western Orange County.
Registration for the primary closes April 14. Persons not voting in the November, 1959 general election must re-register.
WONDERFUL WORLD by Galdman
Northern Nigerians lick the weather problem with permanent "tailor-mode" roofs made of hard wood. When the house rots from prolonged weathering, the owner simply moves his roof to a new site and builds a new house under it.
Today we protect our homes in all kinds of weather with inexpensive zinc or zinc-coated gutters, downspout, and flashing which carry off rain, melting ice, snow, assure long-term corrosion-free service.

MURDY REVEALS PLAN TO
Seek Reelection to Senate
State Senator John A. Murdy, Jr., Orange County senior legislator in Sacramento, today announced his intention to seek reelection from the county's 35th State Senatorial District.
Senator Murdy, who is completing his eighth year in the State Capitol, said, "I do not consider myself the indispensable man in seeking re-election. However, I do humbly feel that during this period of explosive growth, Orange County needs an experienced legislator in Sacramento who has the seniority to influence affairs on behalf of this county's citizens."
As a senior legislator in Sacramento, Senator Murdy is a member of seven important committees including the powerful Rules Committee of the Senate. His other committees include: Education, Finance, Water Resources, Agriculture, Fish and Game, and Legislative Representation.
THE SENATOR, who has lived in Orange County for 48 years, has been active in farming, business, civic and church circles. In addition to his legislative duties, Senator Murdy is President of Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach, a member of the Board of Trustees of Whittier College and is active in Methodist Church and Rotary Internatoinal.
During his eight years in the State Legislature, Senator Mudy has successfully carried every piece of major legislation requested by the official family of Orange County. He has received high praise for his role during the past legislature in pushing through the state water program which will be on the ballot in November.

Money for the vital necessities of community life—schools, hospitals, airports, flood control and many other projects—is raised by taxes and by issuing municipal bonds. These bonds are actually promises to repay borrowed money.
The interest paid on this borrowed money is determined by competitive bidding between groups of investors such as Bank of America municipal underwriting accounts...the bonds going to the group willing to accept the lowest rate of interest.
Competitive financing of State and local projects has become a major factor in building California, not only as a place to live, but as a way of living.
If your community is considering a public improvement, the Municipal Bond Department of the Bank of America will be pleased to help you with suggestions on your municipal financing plans. Contact us through your nearby Bank of America branch, or call us direct in Los Angeles.

THE STATURE OF Senator Murdy brought him the chairmanship of the Southern California delegation of the State Legislature, a group of legislators who meet regularly to discuss Southland problems and means to implement programs developed.
A native of South Dakota, John Murdy came to Huntington Beach in 1912 with his parents and 12 brothers and sisters. He attended elementary and high school in the beach city and studied agriculture at the Davis Campus of the University of California. He is a veteran of World War I.
A self-made man, Murdy began his own 20-acre dairy farm in 1922 with borrowed capital. Thirty years later, when he was first elected to the State Senate in 1952, his farming interests had grown to 1,000 acres, which included citrus, truck produce and lima beans. His interests over the years have expanded beyond the scope of agriculture alone and now include various business enterprises and industrial development.
