Autonetics Makes New Bids
To Locate Plant Here
North American Aviation Co.'s proposed Autonetics plant here has decided to start from scratch.
Autonetic officials told City Councilmen they will resubmit their application to rezone 80 acres on Anaheim Rd. just east of Dowling St. from agricultural to industrial useage to the Planning Commission Monday (Feb. 29).
Planners originally denied the rezoning request because they said they wanted to make a thorough study of the property which recently was annexed to the city before making any zoning decisions.
City Council later overruled the Planning Commission, but Autonetics, wishing to avoid any cloud on the action, asked that the rezoning matter be completely re-instituted.

Electric baseboard heaters, almost hidden beneath the picture window, provide comforting warmth for this mother and daughter in their home. Nearly half a million homes now are heated electrically, and studies by Arvin Industries and other electric heating unit manufacturers indicate that number will increase ten-fold by 1968.

LEVEE will be built from Costa Mesa to Orange and over 60 percent of that distance the stream bed will be concrete-lined as it was near the ocean mouth last year.
Flood Control Engineer H. G. Osborne said that the channel will be deepened in several places.

State 'No Money' Dictum No Bar
To School Building, Board Decides
Two important decisions members of Centralia School district's board of trustees made at their February meeting will affect the future of the eighth school to be built in Anaheim.
Yards of official "red tape" have tangled with the district's determination to plan ahead for school No. 8. First approved in early summer were six elementary classrooms, two kindergartens, two special training rooms and an admission unit. By the time approval of the State Allocations board was gained to proceed with the project, enough new housing had been added to raise the district's need to nine more classrooms and a multi-purpose room, which was approved in December.
The district's policy has been to bid a complete school at one time in a "package deal" to save contractor's costs. Bids for the entire project were already placed than waiting indefinitely for a "whole-loaf."
Glen H. Dysinger, Sr., superintendent, was instructed to proceed with necessary details at once. The earliest the district can hope to move into the new plant is a conservative estimate of mid-November, the board was told, barring unforeseen delays in labor difficulties, flow of supplies and adverse weather.
The school, to be located at 320 Danbrook place, will be known as the Danbrook school because of action the board took. Although the item has been included on each agenda for the past few months, members were unable to agree on a Spanish name or the name of an individual, which pattern they followed in naming the district's other new schools.
Children from the Halecrest tract and new Moore homes and apartments will attend Mira Linda school. Dysinger "guestimated" that Centralia district would have been able to house approximately 6213 pupils, the projected enrollment for next year. Revision of the plans for Danbrook school will reduce the total district capacity by 297 pupils.

The district's policy has been to bid a complete school at one time in a "package deal" to save contractor's costs. Bids for the entire project were already placed on the hands of the printer when word was received from headquarters that the state was out of funds and allocations for the nine classrooms and multi-purpose room had been cancelled. Centralia district was one of five districts in southern California to suffer curtailment of state school building funds.
Following a strong plea from William Almand, president of the board, to give the best to the children in the district in the quickest way possible, trustees voted unanimously to proceed with the original project of 10 classrooms, feeling a "half a loaf" was better.
