Kennedy, Orange county division manager for the utility. “When importation of gas from out-of-state started 12 years ago, the price was about 15 cents per thousand cubic feet.” BULK of the requested increase in rates would not become effective until the higher out-of-state gas prices take effect late this year, Kennedy said. Southern Counties is asking to put into effect immediately a raise of approximately seven cents of the 80 cents a month from householders, he said, to cover higher costs of gas the company purchases from California producers.
