A8-Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, Calif., January 22, 1960) One Day Farm Set Friday A one-day meeting of the Orange and Los Angeles Counties vegetable growers will be held in Buena Park at Knott's Berry Farm tomorrow. The 9:45 a.m. meeting will feature speakers on insect, disease and weed control. During the morning Dr. Irvine Hall will discuss the use of bacteria to kill insects on vegetable crops. This unique approach of killing insects with disease shows much promise. Dr. Allan Shadbolt will present information on how certain chemicals can be used to control weeds in vegetables without damaging or contaminating them. Andrew Deal, Extension Entomologist will show detailed pictures of harmful insects being parasitized by other insects. Dr. Thomas Little will report on how plant breaders are helping growers in this area. The luncheon speaker will be Dr. O. A. Lorenz, vice chairman of the University of California Vegetable Crops Department who is stationed at the Riverside campus. He will report on vegetable research in southern California and at the University South Coast Field Station near Irvine. Paulus, Extension Plant Pathologist; Purpose and Value of Various Soil Fumigants, Dr. Ivan Thomason, Department of Nematology, University of California. All interested persons are invited to attend part or all of the program. Anaheim YMCA Dinner Set For February 3 Santa Monica banker and youth leader Stanley L. Zundell will address the 37th annual YMCA dinner Feb. 3 at Anaheim Bowl. The dinner, according to chairman Everett Gillespie, will begin at 6:30 p.m. Officers to be installed include William E. Fricker, president, Richard Gay and James Abrecht, vice presidents, Ted Payne, treasurer, and Mrs. Al Casebeer, secretary. Anaheim YMCA growth and developments will be the subject of a graphic report by William E. Fricker, Y president, and William C. Poirier, Y general secretary. The annual dinner committee includes, also, Mr. and Mrs. Everett Gillespie, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krein, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Demaree, Mr. and Mrs. Ted Dinkler, and Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Bonney. FAA Approves Plan For All-Weather Status At Airport The Federal Aviation agency has given its approval to installation of high frequency radio equipment at Orange county airport. The radio equipment would make the Santa Ana facility an all-weather airport. The FAA report did not indicate when the equipment would be installed or what it would cost. The FAA said that a controversy over whether to lengthen the airport's runways will have a bearing on when and where the radio station would be installed.
