350 Youngsters Match Skills in Grid Pentathlon Some 350 Anaheim grade school boys stormed the Anaheim High School athletic field Saturday to test their football skills and represent their playgrounds, in the 1959 All-City Football Pentathlon under sponsorship of the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department. Two separate meets were scheduled for the boys who had earned their way to the citywide event by qualifying among the tops on their school playgrounds. Third and fourth graders competed at 9 a.m. and the fifth and six graders at 10 a.m. Events on the schedule were set to test performance in all areas of football skills, with each contestant allowed to participate in two contests. Events included pass for distance, pass for accuracy, punt for distance, punt for accuracy, place kick for distance, place kick for accuracy, center for accuracy and the obstacle course against time. The Annual Pentathlon put the cap on the 1959 Flag Football season currently in swing at all 19 Anaheim playgrounds.
