Request of Giacomo Lugaro for a change from R-A to R-3 on 19 lots and from R-A to C-1 on nine lots on property at the southeast intersection of Crescent and Magnolia, provoked a lengthy battle with interesting sidelights. City Golf Course Figures In this figured the proposed city golf course on part of the property, somewhat to the embarrassment of the city dads, for Leon Stahl, one of the many opponents "suggested" that the Anaheim, Thursday, Dec. 8, 1950 move to make this area acceptable to a $200,000 construction of business and professional buildings and apartment houses as reported by Spokesman A. R. McDaniel, was linked with the proposed golf course, and emphatic denials from the This brought some muttered councilmen. McDaniel who seems omnipresent in representing clients seeking variances so that apartment houses and business blocks may be erected, usually successfully so, took a beating on this. After Council heard numerous oppo-nents and received a letter from 48 owners of single house request was denied. Paul and Marian Tedrick requested a change of zone P-L and C-2 to C-1 on property on the east side of Los Angeles St., between Ball Rd. and Vermont Ave., on which the Bank of America proposes to erect a branch. Dr. Beckman (Continued from Page One) ufacture of electronic instruments, systems and components for precision measurement, analysis and control. After a modest start with two Caltech graduate students in a section of a garage, today Beckman maintains six divisions and a wholly-owned subsidiary in the United States and subsidiaries in Germany and Scotland. Dr. Beckman's contributions to instrumentation date back to 1935 when he developed the first commercial pH meter, an instrument for measuring the acidity or alkalinity of various solutions. In 1940, Dr. Beckman introduced his second major instrument, the quartz spectrophotometer which virtually revolutionized chemical analysis. With introduction of the spectrophotometer, Dr. Beckman left Caltech to devote full time to the instrument business. Another major Beckman innovation in 1940 was the Helipot Precision Potentiometer, a component which marked a significant early step in electronic miniaturization. Holds Numerous Posts In 1942, Beckman made another significant contribution to instrument technology with the first commercially available infrared spectrophotometer. This unit was first applied to the development of synthetic rubber. Since then Beckman has made many impressive contributions to the field of science and technology.
