Orange County Democrats plan a night at the Community Playhouse in Laguna Beach on Dec. 6, at 8:30 p.m. The Democratic theatergoers will witness a performance of "Romanoff and Juliet," by Peter Ustinov, British actor and playwright, who enacted the principal role for several months in New York City. It is a comedy satire, with an anti-war theme. One of the major acting parts, the "General," will be played by the widely-known cartoonist, Roger Armstrong. Armstrong gained fame with his cartoons "Ella Cinders" and "Napoleon." The director will be "Hap" Graham, who is widely known in theater circles for his directing ability. The Laguna Beach Community Playhouse is located at 319 Ocean Ave., Laguna Beach. Tickets may be purchased in Anaheim by contacting Herb Eggert, PR 4-8156. "Democratic Night at the Theater" is being sponsored by the Orange County Democratic Central Committee and the Orange County Democratic Council, and promises to be a sellout, according to Mrs. Hazel Lewis, Democratic headquarters secretary. John, with the capable assistance of wife, Anne, has developed a unique service business in his shop. He saves the lives of shoes! Sam Flory, John's "right hand man" in the shoe re-style enterprise, feels that few shoes should be discarded just because they are out of style. For example, the new narrow toe shoe can be created out of older, wide toe styles—by the genius of these two leather craftsmen. Then, that same old shoe can be fitted with a brand new pair of stylish Cinderella heels, the slim line heel in vogue today. Thrifty shoe repair, who does orthopedic prescription work, and cuts out toes, can also convert old style shoes into modern springalators. Then, if you have a special dress or suit that needs a real fine touch John Malfero can actually duplicate the fabric on the shoes you bring to him. Among many personal touches, the shop gives a free cleaning and polishing job on every pair of shoes brought in for work. So, ladies, don't throw away those old shoes. If they're comfortable, save your feet, save the cost of new shoes by having the old ones re-styled or re-built. (Adv.) Chairman for the various interests in this group are Dr. J. Peterson, president of Orange Coast College believes that California Junior Colleges should be heard on a state level. "Although we want a loud voice at the state level," Dr. Peterson contends, "we do not want state control except in terms of satisfying minimum standards. We believe that local control is necessary for building a strong program of community college education," he said. Dr. Peterson assures that junior college educators hope for a more favorable position for JC education as one of the results of the current State Master Plan Study. Dr. Peterson is on the Committee on Retention of Students which is part of the State Master Plan Study. Diversification Needed The OCC president also pointed out that California needs to continue its program of diversified higher education; the open door policy of Junior Colleges is sound; Junior Colleges need additional state support if they are to assume an expanding role in higher education; Junior Colleges, State Colleges and the University of California must cooperate and coordinate their programs of instruction; Junior Colleges must not lose sight of their role of providing vocational education and guidance as well as lower division university education and that every high school should be a part of a Junior College district.
