The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dick Switzgebel, pastor. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph F. Ballenger of 828 Jade Way, and the bridegroom is the son of Henry Durbin of Brea. Escorted by her father, the bride wore white silk taffeta and lace and waist-length tulle veil attached to a Juliet cap of lace and pearls. Miss June Millard, wearing Kelly green, was maid of honor. Bridesmaids were the Misses Mary Baver, Patricia Waltes and Roxie Thompson. They all wore pale green gowns. Jack Durbin was his brother's best man. A reception was held at Capilla de San Antonio after which the couple left for a trip to Las Vegas. "WINGS OF GOLD"—Navy Ens. John W. Brooks, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. John W. VFW Auxiliary Sets Rummage Sale Members of the Ladies Auxiliary 3173 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a rum-mage sale Nov. 13 and 14 in the VFW hall on Philadelphia St., it was announced by Adeline Schroeder, chairman, at a meeting of the group recently. St. Justin Sets First Festival St. Justin Martyr Church, which was organized last July, will hold its first festival and Spanish dinner Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the church grounds on Ball Rd. and Empire St. Sponsored by the Women's VFW Auxiliary Sets Rummage Sale Members of the Ladies Auxiliary 3173 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars will hold a rummage sale Nov. 13 and 14 in the VFW hall on Philadelphia St., it was announced by Adeline Schroeder, chairman, at a meeting of the group recently. Elizabeth Aldrich presided and Florence Carroll substituted for Secretary Opal Walter. The sale will open its doors at 9 a.m. both days. A bazaar is also scheduled by the women for Dec. 4 and 5 at the hall. A letter of thanks was read by Ivy Ryan for the numerous get-well cards sent to her. World War I Vets Plan Anaheim Rally The Orange County auxiliaries and barracks of the Veterans of World War I will hold an Armistice Day rally at the Anaheim American Legion hall on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 8 p.m. to which all veterans of World War I and their families are invited to attend. There will be a pot luck dinner at 6 p.m. as well as speakers; music and entertainment. The eight county barracks are comprised of Anaheim, Santa Ana, Fullerton, Orange, Dana Point, Garden Grove, Costa Mesa and Buena Park. Paul Relief Corps, a patriotic order for the benefit of veterans of all wars, held their Halloween Costume Breakfast at the home of Mrs. Mary Hatfield, 542 S. Citron, who has announced that proceeds from it will go into the Corps fund. At a recent meeting, Gertrude Gilbert, department president, and members of her official family were entertained with a luncheon served at 11:30 a.m.; Nine Corps were represented. WE SAVE AT... "Wonderful Tong," first in the children's theatre series will be presented by the Californias High School students of Whittier Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. in Anaheim High School auditorium sponsored by the Anaheim Junior Ebell Club and the Parks and Recreation Department. The activities for the evening are scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. in the girls' gymnasium where, after a brief preliminary meeting and entertainment by the "Pep Band," the parents will be given maps to assist them in finding various classrooms. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, we are sending a letter to parents of Western High School students," said McGrew; "urging them to attend this PTA-sponsored event, and cordially inviting them to play 'student' for a few hours. We shall divide our evening into ten-minute periods," he continued, "with five minute breaks between classes. In this manner the parents will be able to attend each one of their youngsters classes and hear the teacher present a brief outline of the aims of each course." Willbur Braun, faculty co-ordinator for "Back to School Night," said the teachers are wholeheartedly entering into the plans for the event, since in this manner parents will obtain a first hand knowledge of what their young people do during the school day and have an opportunity to meet the teachers and make arrangements for a conference if there be a need for one. He also stated that students will provide their parents with their schedule of classes and room numbers in which they are held and that there will be guides posted in the hallways to direct "lost parents" to the proper rooms. Chester R. Shirk, Western High School principal, stated that the administrative staff, as well as the faculty, extends a warm invitation to all Western High School parents to attend this important event tonight. Starting today, hot dogs, punch and cup cakes will be sold to the students the first Thursday of each month with the exception of January when the food will be sold on the second Thursday. Tickets will be sold the preceding Mondays and Tuesdays. Executive board members subscribed to the Parent-Teacher magazine 100 per cent, said Mrs. Guy Crow, magazine chairman. The Nov. 9 meeting will feature a panel discussion with John Lindell, former New York Yankee star; Bobby Adams, who spent 12 years in the major leagues; and Bob Hager, physical education instructor and coach from Anaheim Union High School. The topic is "Understanding Through Good Sportsmanship." Also on the agenda will be the presentation by Herbert Lawson, boys youth representative, of the charter of Boy Scout Troop 26. Square Dancers in Hallowe'en Party The Circle Y Square Dance Club held a Party Dance in the American Legion hall last Friday with Bud Lesher, the club's regular caller leading the festivities. CSEA Makes Plans For Social Meeting Plans for a social meeting in December were discussed by members of Centralia School district's unit of CSEA, an organization for employees who are not teachers, at their October meeting. Joe Koebert, president, appointed a committee to make final arrangements for a Christmas party to which families of the members and their children will be invited. Members appointed were Mines, Viola Sewtell, Catherine Clark, Miss Beth Kroesen, A. J. Southard and S. S. Donaldson. Assistance League Is Hostess to NAL Mrs. Melvin Duffy, president of the Anaheim Assistance League, gave the welcome from the hostess chapter when the National Assistance League held its annual meeting at the Disneyland Hotel recently. Elections were held and Mrs. Horace E. Martin of West Los Angeles was named president. Others named were: Mrs., P. B1 - Anaheim Gazette (Anaheim, California, Nov. 8, 1953) Children's Theatre to Stage Fourth Play of Series February 27 The "Steadfast Tin Soldier," as produced by the Sutro Players of Los Angeles, has been announced as the fourth of the plays to be staged in the live children's theatre series being presented in Anaheim under the auspices of the Junior Ebell Club of Anaheim and the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department. The play, slated in Anaheim Feb. 27, is an adaptation of a "Jans Christian Anderson story" with the original music arranged by Ethelwyn Sutro of the studio. The original music, composed especially for the BPW Council Dinner-Meet Is November 12 The Orange County Council of Business and Professional Women's Clubs will hold its third regular dinner meeting, Thursday, November 12, at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, 720 West Bay Avenue, Balboa, at 7 p.m. according to announcement made by Miss Eunice McGowen, president. The Newport Harbor BPWC will act as hosts under the leadership of Mrs. Marguerite Forgit, president. Reservations should reach Mrs. Dorothy Palen, 428 Holmwood, Newport Beach, by November 9. The professional cast has staged other children's productions, including the famous Dr. Seuss story, "The 500 Hats of Bartholomew," and an estimated 23,000 children and adults throughout Southern California have enjoyed these productions. By the time the run of the "Steadfast Tin Soldier" closes, an additional 13,000 will be added to this number. The theatre series will be held at the Anaheim High School Auditorium at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Other plays in the series are: "The Wonderful Tang." Nov. 7; "Mr. Popper's Penguins," Jan. 9; "Heidi," April 2. Tickets are now available for children in the third through sixth grades at the Anaheim Park and Recreation Department.
