Republicans (Continued from Page 1) "served admirably as a U.S. senator, congressman, Vice President, as member of the President's cabinet and on the National Security Council," the resolution stressed his experience and qualifications "in matters of domestic policy and foreign relations," and that this stamps him "as the best trained man in history for the Presidency." Latest public opinion survey on the presidential contest offers impressive public backing for the position of the state's Republican leaders. As between Nixon and Rockefeller, 73 per cent of California's Republicans support Nixon to 22 per cent for Rockefeller. Also the poll shows that both Republicans and Democrats in California believe Nixon would beat the strongest Democratic contender, whom the poll indicates is Senator John Kennedy of Massachusetts. Rockefeller trails Kennedy in the poll. The percentages are Nixon 52 per cent, Kennedy 45 per cent; or with Rockefeller against Kennedy the results are Kennedy 48 per cent, Rockefeller 44 per cent. Independent voters favored Nixon 56 per cent to 21 per cent for Rockefeller. These are among the valid reasons why California Republican leaders are convinced the party has closed ranks, cast aside its dissension, and will give a stronger account of itself at the polls in 1960.
