Anaheim, SA Soroptimist Clubs
To Co-Hostess District Meet
Mrs. Mabelle Barkow, director of District II, announces that Mrs. Lily Quarnberg, president of the Soroptimist Federation of America's, Inc., will address the District II meeting, Pacific Region; on Oct. 16, 17, and 18. The meeting will be held in the Disneyland Hotel with the Anaheim and Santa Ana Clubs as co-hostess for the event.
Mrs. Barkow states that approximately 400 members from 55 clubs are expected to attend. District II is composed of clubs from Arizona, New Mexico, Southern Nevada, El Paso area of Texas and five counties of Southern California.
The Soroptimist Club is the largest women's classified service club in the world. It's origin, she points out, was in California with the Oakland Club organized Oct. 3, 1921. At present there are over 40,000 members and 1,250 clubs.

Other honored guests in addition to President Lily will be Mrs. Betty Beck Froser, governor of Pacific Region of the Soroptimist Federation, and Miss Mary Ellen Pangle, charter governor of Pacific Region.
Mrs. Barkow gave the main theme, "The Last Round-Up". This theme will be depicted at the Friday night reception, co-hosted by the Fullerton and Orange Clubs when all guests will be greeted by a "Howdy" theme.
Laguna Beach and Newport Beach will co-hostess the lunch on Saturday, featuring the address of President Lily.

St. Anthony Sets Fall Rummage Sale Plan Dinner-Dance
October 28, 29, 30 and 31 are the dates selected for the annual rummage sale sponsored by the Council of Catholic Women of St. Anthony Claret parish. The sale will be held in the old bowling alley on So. Los Angeles St.
Many useful and valuable articles may be purchased at bargain prices. It is also the ideal spot in which to assemble a Halloween costume.
Mrs. Larry Bomkamp and Mrs. Al Schinsky, co-chairmen of the event, request that all articles donated to the sale be brought directly to the bowling alley.
A toy sale is scheduled for Dec. 4 and 5. Both new and used toys will be featured at this time.
The Anaheim Carpenters Auxiliary, 759, will hold a dinner dance this Saturday at Carpenters Hall, 609 W. Vermont Dinner will be served from 6 to 8 p.m. and dancing will be from 9 to 1 a.m. to the music of the Variety Troubadours.
The public is invited to this special affair. Tickets, at $2.50 per person, may be purchased at the hall, or by calling Mrs Chris Easton, JE 7-70713 or Mrs John Adams; PR 4-5065 co-chairmen.

Hears Talk on Educational TV
"Television has a tremendous attention getting factor." That was one point made by Jack Bowne, administrative assistant of the Anaheim Elementary School District, as he spoke of educational television to many interested parents at the first 1959-60 meeting of the Palm Lane PTA, last week at Kettella School.
Bowne continued with a thorough explanation of how close circuit educational television is being brought to the fourth and fifth grade children of 12 Anaheim elementary schools, Palm Lane included. His talk included discussion of how classes are taught, subjects covered, and, with the use of slidehow classrooms are set up for TV teaching.
Bowne was introduced by Mrs. Robert Thomas, program chairman, who also announced the next general meeting will be held as a "Buzz-Session with seven consulting speakers."
Mrs. William Herron, president, introduced the PTA board of directors and Mrs. Willie Lippold, membership chairman announced that there are no 723 paid memberships and urged all parents who have joined to please do so.
Willfred Edelbrock, principal of Palm Lane-introduced teachers and said that general conferences will be held at the school Oct. 20 for kindergarten to third grade parents, and Oct. 22 for fourth to sixth grade parents.
Tri-Hi-Y Clubs Hold Meeting
Fremont Junior High School's Tri Hi Y Clubs held their first meeting of the year Thursday at the Christian Church. Regular sessions were conducted by the YQT's, Petite Y-Ettes, Live Y'ers, Shy-Y's and the Tw-Y-Lites.
Mrs. Orlo Fast, girls' program assistant, met with a group of new girls who will form a new ninth grade club. The girls were Christine Niles, Mary Kooh, Diane Ford, Terry Techann, Marilyn Miller and Perry Buis. They have chosen "Hi-Yers" for their club name.
OCPA Women Set Anaheim Meeting
The Women's Auxiliary to the Orange County Pharmacutical Association will hold their monthly meeting Wednesday, Oct. 21, at The Palms Restaurant, 1010 East Orangethorpe, Anaheim.
Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Presiding will be Mrs. C. V. Turner, president, of Costa Mesa. All members are urged to attend.

Youth Orchestra
The Anaheim Youth Symphony Orchestra, the first of its kind in the city, will hold auditions for positions during the next two weeks in the Anaheim High School music building according to an announcement by the Park and Recreation Department.
Any student from fourth grade through high school who has had at least two years instruction on a musical instrument may qualify for the auditions. Strings will audition Oct. 17 frm 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Oct. 24, winds and percussion will audition from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Anaheim Youth Symphony Orchestra, the first of its kind in the city, will hold its positions during next two weeks in the Anaheim High School music building according to an announcement by the Park and Recreation Department.
Student from fourth through high school who read at least two years in on a musical instrument qualify for the audition. Strings will audition 17 frm 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Oct. 24, winds and percussion will audition from a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The Youth Symphony orchestra will greatly increase the opportunities for local youth with talent in the music field to perform and be recognized. It has the sponsorship of the City of Anaheim and the local school districts which have put much work into insuring orchestra's success.
All applicants for the youth symphony must pass the auditions during which they will be asked to play a piece of music brought from home and also sight-read two other pieces during the try-outs. A membership fee of $5.00 has been set for all symphony members who will have regularly scheduled practices every Saturday morning.
World War I Groups Slate Card Party
Anaheim Barracks 1235 Veterans of World War I and its Auxiliary will hold a card party and pot luck dinner Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m. in the Anaheim American Legion Hall. Door award and high score prizes will be awarded, and refreshments will be served at the close of the evening.
