Anaheim Man Wins Beckman Position Appointment of Gene P. Hatfield, Jr., as a product line specialist for Beckman Instruments' Scientific and Process Instruments Division, Fullerton (is announced by John M. Manypenny, assistant marketing manager). Hatfield is a member of the Fullerton 20-30 Club and serves as mate on Placentia Sea Scout Ship 288. He lives in Anaheim with his wife and two children. Employment Total employment in the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Orange County area rose by 16,600 from the May level to 2,592,900 in June, and set a new record for the second consecutive month, John E. Carr, Director of the Department of Employment, announced today. The June employment figure exceeds that for June of last year by 121,200 or 5 per cent. VISITS—Midshipman Gus L. Keolanui, of Anaheim, visited the Naval air Station in Pensacola, Fla., from June 19—July 14 for an air indoctrination program, which is part of the summer training for Naval Academy second classmen. While in Pensacola, he was indoctrinated in the methods of basic flight training which included flights in a T-34 trainer. Anaheim Girls Can Enter Pony-Tail Softball Event Here's something for the girls! The Orange County Pony-Tail Softball Tournament has been set for the week of August 10 at Santa Ana's Memorial Park and all the communities of the county have been invited to participate. Recreation departments are located in Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach; La Habra, Laguna, El Toro Marine Corps Air Base, Fullerton, Newport Beach (serving desire according to Mrs. Louise Wilkinson, tournament manager). The Pepsi-Cola Company will furnish awards for all players and coaches of winning and second and third-place teams in the three divisions, Mrs. Wilkinson said. The host city will provide participation certificates. Recommended Pony-Tail uniform is Bermuda shorts and sleeveless blouse with each deciding on its colors. News About Our Service Men WESTERN PACIFIC — Paul Dominick, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Sullivan of 1420 Courtney Pl., Anaheim, serving aboard the destroyer USS Shelton operating with the U.S. Seventh Fleet in the Western Pacific. The Shelton has traveled over 19,000 miles since her departure from Long Beach, Calif., last March and has visited Hawaii Japan, Hong Kong and the Philippines. During the latter part of May she participated in Operation "Granite Creek" off the coast of Japan. FORT EUSTIS, VA.—Two soldiers from Anaheim, Calif., Private Leo A. Schuerman and Bernard L. Rupp, recently arrived in Greenland for a summer tour of duty during which they will assist in operation port facilities at Thule Air Force Base. Schuerman, whose wife Patricia, lives at 1156 Casa Grande entered the Army last November and completed basic training at Fort Ord. The 23-year-old soldier son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schuerman, 957 Hampstead St is regularly assigned to the 11th Transportation Battalion's 285th Company at Fort Eustis, Va. He is a 1954 graduate of St. Teresa. Here's something for the girls! Cities may enter as many teams in each division as they desire according to Mrs. Louise Wilkinson, tournament manager.
