... Fire Budget
(Continued from Page 1)
Two fire dispatchers also will be added to the headquarters station. This new personnel will relieve regular firemen for fire fighting duties.
This year's request for non-personnel services is $34,490, or $13,485 more than $21,005 spent last year.
The fire chief explained the need to purchase new fire hose to replace old is one of the main reasons for the increase.
Also showing an increase this year because of the new stations and personnel, are the utilities, automotive, maintenance, laundry services and training program.
The Federal Communications Commission is requiring that radios in the Fire Department be put on split channels, necessitating an increase in radio maintenance.
Capital Improvements
Capital expenditures for the department are recommended for an increase of $9,470 from $24,160 in 1958-59 year. Total capital improvements this year are set at $33,635.
Main items will be a new 1,000 gallon fire truck to replace the unit, which will be transferred to Station No. 4. Other capital items for the new year are a sedan and radio to be used by the Fire Prevention Bureau to increase its efficiency; and radio for the new truck; floor polisher, furniture for Station No. 4 and miscellaneous fire fighting equipment to be used by the new company.

Councilmen
(Continued from Page 1)
Councilmen set the election for the Katella Park annexation for Sept. 15 after less than 10 percent of the assessed valuation of the area protested.
City Manager Murdoch also informed councilmen of a new annexation by the city. Councilmen set August 25 as public hearing for the 112 acres Placentia-Cerritos Annexation.
The area is bounded by Placentia, Cerritos and Struck. Collins and the Santa Fe railroad tracks.
Councilmen also denied the request by George and Dorothy Bennett for change of zone from R-A to R-3 at 9072 to 9092 Stinson.
Variance Grant
A variance was granted Daisy Olmstead for three years to sell jewelry made from stones and to erect a sign at her home, 1731 W. La Palma.
Final reading of an ordinance changing the zone to C-3 for Nicholas Dovallis at the northwest corner of Lincoln and Vermont was adopted.
The council also approved final reading of an ordinance giving C-3 zoning at 1531 E. Center for E. Mariene and Fred Cooper.

The new budget, some $648,375 more than last year, includes no special tax levy.
It has, however, been indicated that one might be necessary if assessed valuation of the district does not come up to expectations.
The publication budget was adopted on a $1.15 per $100 of assessed valuation for the general fund rate.

EDITOR'S NOTE—What news paper isn't interested in the way municipal government is operated? After all, that's one of the great public services any newspaper can perform—reporting the facts on the way city government is operated. There's nothing personal involved.
PAY INCREASES — Every body, including city employees and councilmen, were no doubt shocked Saturday to read the municipal employees were granted pay raises. That story was carried in another newspaper and certainly surprised most. The facts are that councilmen were not scheduled to act upon the proposed salary increases until Tuesday night.
Nothing like being a city councilman and having to read about what you did without having done it or having any knowledge of the action.
IT'S HOT. LIKEWISE NOISE—This past week's warm night have apparently resulted in an abnormal number of "disturbance calls" to the local police department. In most cases loud parts loud radios or just loud talk are apparently the disturbing factor to complaining citizens. Some people find it too hot to sleep or the windows wide and forget that there might be other persons...
