'til Edison Display 'Cool Off' for Visitors to Fair Visitors to the Orange County Fair at Costa Mesa through Sunday, July 19, can enjoy a "cooling off" period in a unique display presented by Southern California Edison Company. This will be one section of the electric power company's display showing the newest appliances for the kitchen as well as a remarkable way of controlling the weather inside the home. J. A. According to Long, the display is a life-sized duplicate of those model Swiss chalets that forecast the weather by having a fair maid come out side for good weather, a witch outside for rainy or poor weather. Instead, visitors to the fair are asked to step in one side if they want to "cool off" and in the other if they want to be warmed. Purpose of this display is to demonstrate the weathermaking abilities of a single electric heat pump. In this case, the heat pump will be taking heat from one side of the chalet — thereby cooling it—concentrating and pumping it to the other side—warming it.
