New Orange State College Plans for 15,000 Students With its official opening now scheduled for September 1959, Orange County State College is deeply involved in master planning and building design. The California State Division of Architecture has been assigned the task of working with college authorities on a master plan for 12,000 to 18,000 students and on immediate permanent buildings for 3,000. In the meantime, the several hundred students expected this fall will be housed in leased facilities. Profiting from the experience of other state colleges, Orange County expects to build no temporary structures, nor small permanent buildings, but rather to concentrate at once on large permanent buildings of outstanding design. The first of these is now being planned as a science building for 15,000 students, but will provide initially all the classrooms, laboratory, library, and office requirements for a student body of 3,000. This building may be six floors in height, with elevators or escalators, and will be approximately 500 feet in length. It will be one of the outstanding architectural features of Orange County. Subsequent buildings soon to be under design also are a music-speech-little theatre building and George N. Edison. Funeral services were conducted for George N. Edison, 76, of 18802 Brookhurst in Hilgenfeld Mortuary Chapel with interment in Anaheim Cemetery. He is survived by his widow, Willa D. Edison; daughter, Mrs. Alice Taylor of Keno; four sons Paul M. of Paramount, Ralph of Anahekn, Kennedy J. of S Diego and Eldon J. of Oldhorm step-son, Kenneth L. Booz of S Diego; brother, Frank J. of Tinois; 14 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. initially all the classrooms, laboratory, library, and office requirements for a student body of 3,000.
