10 Anaheim Gazette Anahiem, Calif., Thursday, June 11, 1959 Schools Dust off Old Law to Meet Small Car Rage Shades of grandfather and his horse and buggy! If you're thinking of parking an animal on any one of Centralia School district's six school grounds—don't. Centralia district's board of trustees was reminded recently of an old law which has been dusted off to meet a modern situation which says you can't. According to Palmer G. Campen, assistant superintendent in charge of business, need to revive the statute arose because of the miniature car rage. Orange County sheriff's office has advised schools that driving a miniature car by an unlicensed driver on the school grounds is not permitted. Backed Up The sheriff's office is backed up by Section 603 of the California Vehicle Code which begins, "No person shall drive any vehicle or animal nor shall any person stop, park or leave standing any vehicle or animal whether attended or unattended upon the driveways or paths or any of the grounds of any public school." The open spaces the school grounds afford are a temptation to youthful drivers, and every precaution possible should be taken. Registration For Summer Opens At FULLERTON J.C. Reistration for Fullerton Juhlor College summer school is in full swing in the south lounge of the administration building daily from 8:30 to 5:00 p.m., according to John Reid, dean of summer school. June 8, 1871 We have hertofore spoken the importance of county vision, and urged that ways means be taken to effect desired end — desirable one count of convenience and omy. The county affairs as have been for years, display but an expensive month which is unjust to every south of the San Gabriel. By enormous taxes we foot the travagant bills of officers we have no voice in putting ward for election, as well fat perquisites to a host of extravagant relatives. County property is retained exclusive in the city of Los Angeles (and referred to is the county hose), and now our neigh fearing we are to obtain a vision, have through their county bonds for the building at court house. More than half of this must now be for by the people of the San Gabriel while if the county had been vided at the last session of legislature, we would have saved that expense, and less than half the amount we have built a suitable court fath at the new county seat where it would have been located. The vineyardists of Anaheim The open spaces the school grounds afford are a temptation to youthful drivers, and every precaution possible should be taken to avoid a violation of the law on school premises, school officials are warned. A letter has been sent to Chief of Police Wilford Sparkes in Buena Park, informing him of Centralia district's desire to post signs at each school and asking advice on wording the sign to assist not only the school district but Buena Park's law enforcement agency as well. WHAT'S DOING H. I. Perry, your Telephone Manager in Anaheim With more and more cars on the road, safe driving is a big part of any telephone man's job. Take our telephone installers for example. Each installer takes a special course in "defensive driving" before he gets behind the wheel of any telephone company car or truck. And to make sure he doesn't forget the things he's learned, he takes a check-up ride periodically, and a complete driving test every 2 years. What's more, he even has his eyes tested every 2 years. New York Wine and Fruit report contains the following our wines: "After all has said it must be clear to unprejudiced that the future the California wines will be great one, and that the y giant will before long, with exceptions, not only compete but at a later day will outvide best foreign wines. For the special use of the invalid, the California wine is now beginning displace the European of the grade, as physicians place confidence in the purity genuineness of the native pro than in the foreign wines, we are generally much more eusive and rarely unadulterate. At the meeting of the trustees Saturday night it resolved to revoke the right way to the Anaheim Rail Company through the city ground alleged for the action that the city did not own streets, but that they belong to the water company. Prof. Dean has opened a barber shop at the corner Center and Los Angeles st With more and more cars on the road, safe driving is a big part of any telephone man's job. Take our telephone installers for example. Each installer takes a special course in "defensive driving" before he gets behind the wheel of any telephone company car or truck. And to make sure he doesn't forget the things he's learned, he takes a check-up ride periodically, and a complete driving test every 2 years. What's more, he even has his eyes tested every 3 years. Other telephone people who drive company cars also get training in "defensive driving". This extra care helps us to be better drivers and do our part to make the streets safer for everyone. And we believe we serve you best when we serve you safely. Bill Fox, telephone company engineer, Bob Shanks, superintendent of Anaheim Elementary Schools, Bob Ford, Telephone Company supervising foreman, and George Oelkers, utilities director, City of Anaheim, are shown discussing the problems of power supply and location of the special amplifier equipment for the Anaheim Elementary Schools' closed circuit T.V. system. Twenty-six amplifiers will be needed to maintain high quality pictures and sound at 18 locations. The system will require 100,000 feet of coaxial cable. At present 15,000 feet has been installed and pre-tested. The entire project should be completed by August of this year. IN THE DAYS OF LONG AGO From the Files of The Anaheim Gazette By MRS. HENRY KUCHEL Years Ago... June 5, 1871 We have herttofore spoken of the importance of county division, and urged that ways and means be taken to effect the arrived end — desirable on account of convenience and economy. The county affairs as they be seen for years, display nothing but an expensive monoply, which is unjust to every man of the San Gabriel. By our famous taxes we foot the exaggant bills of officers that have no voice in putting ford for election, as well as superquisites to a host of their ravagant relatives. County property is retained exclusively the city of Los Angeles (an item referred to is the county fire er), and now our neighbors, we are to obtain a division, have through their board supervisors, issued $25,000 in city bonds for the building of city house. More than oneof this must now be footed the people of the San Gabriel; if the county had been disided at the last session of the mature, we would have been used that expense, and with than half the amount could be built a suitable court house the new county seat wherever would have been located. Tuesday evening at 10 o'clock a heavy Scotch mist prevailed, and people with straw hats thought of going home for their umbrellas. This is the most remarkable season climatically in the memory of the oldest inhabitant. Mrs. Rogers entertained the ladies at progressive euchre at her residence in East Anaheim Friday afternoon. Mrs. Melrose was awarded the first prize, Mrs. McKinley the second prize and Mrs. Perdomo the consolation. Light refreshments were served and after an afternoon of pleasurable association the party dispersed. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Christ, the afternoon of the 12th. Will Lawrence the expert Southern Pacific telegrapher at Shorb station, and champion pool player of Orange county arrived intown yesterday on a 10-day lay-off.
