Clarence A. Sissons Honored At Golden Anniversary Dinner
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence A. Sisson of 119 S. Ohio St. were entertained at an informal dinner at the Royal Hawaiian Restaurant in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary.
Attending were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Sisson of Santa Monica, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Sisson of Anaheim, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin E. Dunn, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Critchfield and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Patrick also of Anaheim.
A large cake and many gold wrapped gifts predominated the dinner table. Mrs. Sisson wore a pale blue embroidered summer dress with a white orchid, the gift of her grandchildren, and she carried the white lace handkerchief she had for her wedding.
Clarence and Mina Hughes Sisson were married in Portland, Ore., June 2, 1909 and came to California in 1921 and to Anaheim in 1927. They have two sons, Robert of Santa Monica and Richard of Anaheim, and four grandchildren, Dennis, Susan, John and Martha of Anaheim.
Mr. Sisson will be remembered as a prominent businessman in Orange before and during the war. Since his retirement he has been sexton of St. Michael's Church and a crossing guard at St. Boniface School.
Mrs. Sisson has been active in PTA work and holds a life membership. She was one of the early presidents of the Anaheim Council. She has been an active member of the Anaheim Ebell Club for many years.
Hospital Group Slates Coffee Hour
Publishers and women's editors of Orange County newspapers have been invited to attend a coffee hour at the Orange County General Hospital on Wednesday, June 17, to hear about the volunteer program now under way at the hospital.

Slates Coffee Hour
Publishers and women's editors of Orange County newspapers have been invited to attend a coffee hour at the Orange County General Hospital on Wednesday, June 17, to hear about the volunteer program now under way at the hospital.
In charge of the information session are Mrs. Barbara Griffin, hospital staff nurse in charge of volunteer work coordination, and Mrs. Robert J. MacFarlane of Santa Ana, president of the Orange County General Hospital Volunteers.
This is the second in a series of informational meetings to acquaint various publics within the county of the need for volunteer service at the hospital.
Last month's coffee hour was attended by city officials from Fullerton, Costa Mesa, Westminster, Newport Beach and members of the county board of supervisors. Dr. Lewis Elmore, hospital medical director, and Miss Marie Bolton, director of nurses, were also in attendance.
Next Wednesday's meeting will be at 10 a.m. in the lounge of the Nurses' Home on the hospital grounds.
Newcomers Club Installs Officers
In Joint Ceremony
Mrs. Ruth Kennedy was installed as president of the City Hostess Newcomers Club in a tri-city installation ceremony held at Greenbrier Inn Tuesday. Officers for the Anaheim, Garden Grove and Santa Ana groups were installed also.
Mrs. Margaret Peterson was installing officer.
Seated with Mrs. Kennedy were Mrs. Wilbur White, vice-president; Mrs. Bennett Marcus, second vice-president; Mrs. Floyd Hollenbeck, recording secretary; Mrs. Ray McCoy, corresponding secretary; Mrs. Edward Hagen, teasurer; and Mrs. Paul Zigmont, purser.
A centerpiece of wild orchids formed the table decor for the luncheon which preceded the installation.
The next activity for the group will be a couple's bridge to be held at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Bennett Marcus, 601 S. Palm, this Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
Anyone who has lived in the area for two years or less is eligible for membership in the Newcomers Club.
Fuchsia Group to Exhibit Plants
At Western Dairy Show June 17
Hundreds of varieties of fuchsias and shade plant gardens will be featured at the Great Western Dairy Show, June 17 to 21, by the California National Fuchsia Society.
Thirty fuchsia societies, from Costa Mesa to San Luis Obispo, will be exhibiting their choiceest specimens of fuchsias, fuchsia blossom displays, begonias, ferns, African violets, gloxinias and bromeliads. Individual exhibits are open to the public. Among those exhibiting will be the Orange County Branch.
This show will be staged in the Great Western Exhibit Center, located at Santa Ana Freeway and Atlantic Blvd., in Los Angeles. Hours are 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
Practical garden areas by member groups will feature fuchsias and related shade plants in colorful landscaped gardens, unique ideas, outdoor living and sheltered areas.
Prominent hybridizers from all over California will display their seedlings, including their 1959 creations.
At the educational exhibit, outstanding garden celebrities and authorities will make personal appearances to help home gardeners with all their problems in the garden. These will include such personalities as Dorothy Jonson, editor of *Lifelong Joy*.

VFW Auxiliary Announcement for Rummage Sale
Plans for a rummage sale June 19 at the VFW hall on Philadelphia St. were announced by Addie line Schroeder at the recent meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary, 317 of the Veterans of Foreign War Mrs. Elizabeth Aldrich presided.
Reports from the various committees included a report on the grave wreaths furnished by the Auxiliary for Memorial Day.
Post Commander George He attended the meeting as a guest and gave a talk, thanking the ladies for their work on Poppy Day. He also presented the Auxiliary with a check for the Veterans Hospital in Long Beach.
St. Michael's Episcopal Schedules Events for Two events, slated for this weekend and Summer School have been scheduled by St. Michael's Episcopal Church this month.
A "Kartoon Karnival" at the parish hall Saturday will be sponsored by the Girls Friendly Society. Refreshments will be served Sunday, the church picnic will be held at the old La Palm School grounds, 317 East La Palma, beginning at 2 p.m.; with games which will include sack races, tug-o-war and table games.
The Lamplighters will serve baked beans and hamburger supersuper at 4 p.m. and at 5 o'clock there will be an exhibition basis.
OCPA Auxiliary To Attend Confab At Beverly Hilton
Mrs. L. I. Ferrell, Mrs. Wiliam Perrill and Mrs. Lee Friedberg of this city, members of the Women's Auxiliary to the Orange County Pharmaceutical Association.
Zion Sewing Guild Aids Red Cross
The Sewing Guild of the Zion Lutheran Church in Anaheim is making bed jackets for the men in the VA Hospital, according to Mrs. Robert Clark, production chairman of the Anaheim Red Cross.
Volunteers have agreed to make flannel bed socks for the VA Center in Whipple, Ariz.
Women in the area who like to sew and can spare a few hours a week are welcome to come to the chapter house to help meet the demand put upon Red Cross production services.

St. Jude Guild Holds Final Meet of Year
St. Jude's Hospital Guild held its final meeting until October in the hospital staff room with a program presented by Dr. Harold Galbraith which included a film from the American Cancer Society.
Twenty-eight Provisionals have been accepted into active status for fall. Among them are two from Anaheim: Mrs. Louis Bantly and Mrs. J. E. Schumacher.
Mrs. Arthur Ferree, ways and means chairman, and Mrs. William Lyons, co-chairman, outlined plans for another fashion show and luncheon for the coming year.
Prominent hybridizers from all over California will display their seedlings, including their 1959 creations.

These will include such personalities as Dorothy Jonson, editor of "Dorothy Digs in the Garden", Dr. Robert A. Atkinson, gardening consultant and editor of the gardening section of the Los Angeles Times Home Magazine and Mirror News, David Gliffillan, radio and garden editor of the Pasadena Independent-Star News, Sylvia B. Leatherman of El Monte, ferns, and Ethel Houdyshel of La Verne, African viollets. Many other noted specialists will be on hand to give their personal advice on the propagation and care of fuchsias and other shade plants.
Anaheim Choraleers Rehearsing for New Show July 24
Rehearsals are under way for "A Night on Broadway" by the Anaheim Choraleers to be presented July 24 in the Anaheim Greek Theatre.
As a variation from their usual theme, the show will feature choral and vocal selections from "Brigadoon," "Rose Marie," "South Pacific," "Kismet" and "Oklahoma!"
The group meets in the Anaheim High School music building for rehearsals.
OCPA Auxiliary To Attend Confab At Beverly Hilton
Mrs. L. I. Ferrell, Mrs. Wiliam Pherrin and Mrs. Lee Friberg of this city, members of the Women's Auxiliary to the Orange County Pharmaceutical Association, will be among those from the county attending the 53rd Annual California Pharmaceutical Convention and Drug Trade Show beginning Sunday at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
More than 1000 members of the women's auxiliaries throughout the state are expected to attend with their husbands. "Romance of Pharmacy" will be the theme for the social activities.
The convention which will be held through June 17, will feature the "Mad Hatter's Ball" June 16 and a fashion show and tea June 16 in the Star on the Roof Room hostessed by the Orange County group. Mrs. J. M. Pelletier of Newport Beach is chairman and hostsesses are Mrs. C. V. Turner Costa Mesa, Orange County president and Mrs. M. E. Wright Westminster, second vice-president of the State Auxiliary.
Carpenters' Group To Hold Joint Installation Here
A joint installation of offices will be held by three Orange County Carpenters' Ladies Auxiliary.
Horace Mann Principal Installs New PTA Officers at Mel Gauer School
One of the youngest schools in Anaheim was honored by one of the oldest Tuesday when B. F. Maddox, principal of Horace Mann School, acted as installing officer of the PTA officials of the Melbourne A. Gauer School for the 1959-60 year.
Well known in Anaheim and for many years associated with the school department and work in civic organizations, Maddox also has worked closely with Melbourne A. Gauer, past superintendent of schools, for which the school was named.
New officers installed by Maddox for the coming year are: Mrs. Ralph Stephens, president; Mrs. James Ownby, first vice-president; Mrs. Milton Farber, second vice-president; Mrs. Duane Duncan, third vice-president; Mrs. Walter Chappell, treasurer; Mrs. F. Patt Spaulding, secretary; Mrs. Ray Polizzi, historian; Mrs. Richard Parker, auditor; and Mrs. William Steele, parliamentarian.

The Anaheim Chapter of the American Red Cross will hold director's meeting tonight at 7:30 p.m. All members of the board are urged to attend.

Rummage Sale; Reports Given
For a rummage sale June the VFW hall on Philadelphi were announced by Adelaideer at the recent meet-the Ladies Auxiliary, 3173 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Elizabeth Aldrich presided.
Commander George Heil and the meeting as a guest gave a talk, thanking the Jail their work on Poppy Day. He presented the Auxiliary check for the Veterans Hos- Long Beach.

Other guests for the evening were Minnie Harvey, past president, and Betty Morris from Las Vegas Auxiliary. Also present was Elma Richards who has recovered from a long illness.
The meeting closed with refreshments served by Grace Dierberger and Ann Stakemiller. The next meeting will be held next Monday.
Michael's Episcopal Church Modules Events for This Month

St. Michael's will conduct a Summer School from June 21 to 26 using the theme "I Believe in the Communion of Saints" at Claremont College.
Subjects to be covered include "Church History" by the Rev. Dennis J. Bennett, 'The Psychology of Christian Approaches to Interpersonal Difficulties' by the Rev. Kenneth Mann., Ph.D. and "Church School Teacher Training" by the Diocesan Department of Christian Education.
There also will be a children's daily vacation Bible School, child care and evening entertainment. Details may be obtained at KE 5-4654.

Orangeview Music Students Present Spring Concert
The music departments of Orangeview Junior High School presented their "Spring Concert" in the school's gymnasium with a large group of parents and friends in attendance.
The program included the Beginning Orchestra under the direction of Jack Vierkorn, the Junior High Band and the Junior High Orchestra, led by Leonard Ostwald, and three choral groups, the Junior High-Glee Club, the Junior High Mixed Chorus and the Triads, all under the direction of Mrs. Leona Carver.
Accompanying the choral groups were Miss Linda Keith and Miss Robyn Richter.
The program ended with an impromptu presentation of "Syncopated Clock" by a group of boys from the mixed chorus.
Milk is one of the oldest known foods. Records show cows were milked in 9000 B.C.
Penters' Group Hold Joint Installation Here

at the new Carpenters' Hall at 608 W. Vermont in Anaheim June 27.
Participating will be the Anaheim No. 759 group, Santa Ana No. 216 and Costa Mesa No. 639. Ceremonies will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Judy Buckmann is 'Woman of Year'
Popular Judy Buckmann, vice-president of the Associated Student Body of Fullerton Junior College, was named "Woman of the Year" at the annual Women-of-Distinction Night held in the college gymnasium.
Miss Buckmann was named to the honor from a field of four finalists. The 19-year old blonde sophomore has been active in many phases of college life, having served, in addition to ASB vice-president, as a song leader, Eastern Conference Queen, the secretary of the freshman class, as an active team member in all Women's Athletic Association sports, and as assembly chairman for the college. A graduate of Brea-Olinda, Miss Buckmann had received a similar honors there as "Girl of the Year". She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Paul Buckmann of Yorba Linda.
Announcement of the Woman of the Year was a major highlight of Women-of-Distinction Night, an affair staged annually to honor the top 150 women students of the college. The evening's program opened with a processional and introduction of all those being honored.
Following a welcoming of guests by Dr. Lynn Sheller, director, the Associated Women Student President Sharon Walker reported on women's activities for the year and then installed new Aws officers for the coming year. GallMacKay of Fullerton, president; Karen Lindstrom of Garden Grove, first vice-president; Carol Van Verst of Anaheim, second vice-president; Cathy Beard of Whittier, secretary; and Grace Pruett of Anaheim, treasurer.
The evening closed with a reception.
The regular meeting of the Ladies' Guild of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior will be held tonight at 7:45 at the Parish hall. The pastor will speak on the preparation of young men for the ministry.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Anderson of 319 N. Bush St. have returned home from a week-end at Springborg's Glen Ivy Hot Springs.
