THIS IS A Woman's World DORIS LEE—SOCIAL - CLUB EDITOR Business, Professional Women Name New Committee Chairmen The regular meeting of the Anaheim Business and Professional Women's Club was held last Wednesday evening in the courtesy rooms of Home Savings and Loan with Mrs. Sigma Hatfield, new president, presiding for her first meeting. The high point of business was the announcement of new committee chairmen, these being: Mrs. Oriana Ross, parliamentarian; Mrs. Delois Chronister, auditor; Miss Helen Sharp, career advancement; Miss Beulah Hineman, finance; Mrs. Maxine Weigand, international relations; Miss Nell Hollar, legislation; Mrs. Ruby Terry, membership; Mrs. Norma Nipper with Mrs. Mae Cornbloom, associate, public relations; Mrs. Josephine Fulfer, public affairs; Mrs. Rose Wilson, national security; Mrs. Ruth Turner, program coordinator. Special committee chairmen named are Mrs. Helen Bratt, attendance; Mrs. Evah Drennon, emblem; Mrs. Emma Lawrence, mature woman worker; Miss Pauline Houts, reservations; Mrs. Doras Prickett, hostess; Mrs. Edna Thomas and Mrs. Melva Webster, year book; Mrs. Ruth Masters, small business; Mrs. Betty Bosch, hospitality; Miss Florence Davis with the Salvation Army in this city. At the June 10 meeting, place to be announced at a later date, Mr. David Snow of Hallamore Electronics will be guest speaker, who will talk on Communism as it affects every American. Kappa Delta Set Family Picnic; Schedule Confab The Orange County Alumnae Association of Kappa Delta Sorority will hold a family picnic Sunday at 2 p.m. in Orange City Park. Hostesses are Mrs. Arnold Gaynor and Mrs. David Balfour. Also slated is the Sorority's 33rd National Convention to be held at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City June 22 to 26. Mrs. Marjorie Ann Braden Warmer, dean of women at San Diego State College, will speak one evening. Bike Riders Take Safety Tests at Centralia School CANCER DIRECTOR — Mtche Hunt Shelton of St. Beach has been named public information director of the range County Branch of American Cancer Society. Mtche Shelton will handle her new assignment as an account executive of the public relations office of Tom McCann and Associates, the Santa Ana age which has represented the cal society branch for the three years. St. Anthony Womens To Install Next Special committee chairmen named are Mrs. Helen Bratt, attendance; Mrs. Evah Drennon, emblem; Mrs. Emma Lawrence, mature woman worker; Miss Pauline Houts, reservations; Mrs. Doras Prickett, hostess; Mrs. Edna Thomas and Mrs. Melva Webster, year book; Mrs. Ruth Masters, small business; Mrs. Betty Bosch, hospitality; Miss Florence Davis, ways and means, and historian, Mrs. Lula Hann. Reports of the recent state convention in Coronado were given by Mrs. Hatfield, Mrs. Ross, Miss Florence Bechtle and Mrs. Nipper. A short report was also given on the April San-Orco District annual convention in Pasadena. Guests at the Wednesday evening meeting were Lucille Duncan, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, and Mrs. Joy Brown, who is associated with the national security; Mrs. Ruth Turner, program coordinator. Auxiliary Holds Potluck-Meeting A potluck dinner and meeting was held by the Auxiliary of Veterans of World War I, Anaheim Barracks No. 1235, at the American Legion Hall last night. The dinner was served at 6:30 and was well attended by Veterans of World War I and their wives and members of the Auxiliary. Plans were discussed for a ham dinner to be held in the near future by Barracks 1235 and its Auxiliary. Further information may be obtained by calling TR 1-2212 or PR 2-0553. Madrigal Singers At CC Schedule Concert Tomorrow The popular Chapman College Madrigal Singers will present their second home concert of the year Friday evening (June 5) at 8:15 in the college auditorium. For the Spring Concert, director S. Sheldon Disrud, has programmed a selection of both sacred and light works, including the complete 18 Liebeslieder Waltzes by Brahms, Handel's 33rd National Convention to be held at the Hotel Utah in Salt Lake City June 22 to 26. Mrs. Marjorie Ann Braden Warmer, dean of women at San Diego State College, will speak one evening. Bike Riders Take Safety Tests at Centralia School Two representatives from the Anaheim city police department conducted a bicycle inspection and licensing program at Centralia school, 7341 Lincoln Ave. Sponsored by Anaheim's bicycle safety council, boys and girls brought their bikes to school in a massive round-up following dismissal of afternoon classes which lasted for about two hours. Children, under the direction of their room teachers, had previously studied the code affecting bicycles from a handbook they had in their possession for a week prior to taking written test. All third through sixth grade pupils were eligible and 292 passed the written exam. Members of the PTA helped Officers Jerry Sneegas and Frank Cozza, who inspected the vehicles and gave their approval. Only six bikes failed to pass the inspection out of 108. Boys and girls who did not own their own bicycles were allowed to take the "driver's test" on borrowed bikes, resulting in 125 students receiving licenses. Approximately eight failed and will have to try again. Kenneth Holland, principal at Centralia school in Centralia school district, is a member of Anaheim's Bicycle Safety council which has carried on the drive to stress safety among school bike riders. PTA members who typed operators' license cards were Mmes. Frank R. Niederman, Brian Proper and Robert Menofee. Assisting on the obstacle course were Mmes. Ernest Valdivia, Joe Simanek, Edward Leahy, Orville Trask, Robert Lake, Kenneth Wilson and fifth grade teachers, James F. Fleming, Jr. and W. J. Kennedy. Nursing Students At FJC Pass State Board Exam The entire mid-year class vocational nursing students at Fullerton Junior College participated recently to become licensed cational nurses, according to Olive Morris, FJC vocational nursing division chairman. Top score on the examination administered by the Department of Vocational Standards Board Vocational Nurse Examiners posted by Ruth Myracle of B Park. Others winning their LVN dentials were Ione Crowder Orange; Elsie Degler of Ftton; Shannon Hastings of Heim; Dorothy Doverspike of Mesa; Louise Eberhard of Mirada; Cecelia Enriquez of Tier; Sallie Lashley of Fullerton Vincenza Miranda of Orange na Perkins of Orange; and Turner of Anaheim. CAAS to Form Animal Shelter Concert Tomorrow The popular Chapman College Madrigal Singers will present their second home concert of the year Friday evening (June 5) at 8:15 in the college auditorium. The program will be divided into two portions—the first half to be sung in the usual madrigal style with the group seated around a table and the second half to be staged informally. Soloists will be Linda Tennis and Dennis Nelson, two of the seven graduating seniors in the group. Other seniors completing their Madrigal Singers "careers" are Sandra Dewse, Jan Moore, Rod Reeves, Bob Reid and Sue Whinrey. 'Magic Toy Shop' Will Benefit Talented Students Talented youngsters will benefit from the fourth annual talent extravaganza, "The Magic Toy shop," to be presented by Jo-An Burdick Dance and Baton Studio Saturday at the Anaheim High School auditorium. Proceeds from the show will go to the Student Scholarship Fund. Curtain will go up at 8 p.m. for a two-hour program of baton twirling, vocal numbers, acrobatics and varied dance numbers featuring more than 200 students. PHONE JA 7-3784 Study Club Slates Installation of Officers Wednesday Members of Magnolia Study Club will gather for a buffet lunch and installation of officers at the Royal Hawaiian Restaurant next Wednesday, June 10, at 12:30 p.m. New officers to be installed are: Mrs. H. E. Remland, president; Mrs. Olen Kramer, vice-president; Mrs. Lester Moffit, secretary; Mrs. George Lyons, treasurer, and Mrs. Calvin Maxwell, historian. The last meeting of the club, held at the home of Mrs. Arthur Hartelt, 111 N. Gilbert, was highlighted by a lecture given by Richard Rowland, missionary in the Philippines. He is connected with the Far Eastern Broadcasting System which reaches all of Asia. Rowland, a resident of Anaheim, is home on furlough. Deadlines Set for Art Show Entries All entries for the second annual art show to be held by the Broadway-Orange County Shopping Center, June 22 through 27, must be delivered to the mall of the Shopping Center either tomorrow, from 12 noon to 9 p.m., or Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., it has been announced by the coordinators of the event. The show, sponsored by the Shopping Center and the Orange County Art Association, will feature three categories: first, oils; second, watercolor, pastels, casein and works under glass; third, mosaics, ceramics, sculptures and other art objects. College Book Out The spring edition of the "Torch," the new "semi-annual annual" being published at Fullerton Junior College this year, is now in the hands of printers, according to Editor-in-Chief Mrs. Dorothy Conforti. The publication is slated for distribution to all FJC student body card holders on June 11 or 12. Faust of 928 Pioneer are the parents of a baby boy born at St. Jude's Hospital and named Anthony. The father is an Anaheim attorney associated with Faust, Knisely and Knisely. The Anaheim Garden Club recently installed their new officers at Anaheim City Park with Mrs. Arthur McCarthy seated as president. Patrick Henry Parent-Teacher Association faculty luncheon will be held June 18. Mel Gauer PTA will wind up the year with their annual family picnic to be held Saturday, Mrs. Milton Farber is in charge. Opti-Mrs. Club will install their new officers in a joint installation meeting with the Optimist Club June 11. Mrs. Cliff Elliott is the newly-elected president. Trident PTA completed its first year of operation with a report on the achievements of the past year at their last meeting. Officers were installed with Mrs. J. H. Greedy as president. This year an Oriental theme was carried out with a hanging basket of flowers and ivy, lanterns and small umbrellas decorating the stage. The tables were arranged by members of the Y-2res Club of the YMCA, and women's committee presented awards with first place going to Twilights; Margaret Nellet, president; second prize to Y-Zups, Pam MaHaffey, present; third place to the Y'd Awakes, Vivian Bridgford, presidents. Mothers and daughters were fed coffee or punch and a delectable dessert of angel food cake popped with whip cream and strawberries. Mrs. Marion Mellette, president of the women's committee, predeceased over the evening's activities. She presented Cecil Gough who narrated a fashion show with models from her studio. Following the show, Mrs. Orlo Fast, girls' program assistant at the Y, introduced the Fremont Junior Tri-Hi-Y Council and expressed her appreciation for their work this year. The World Service Candy Sale awards were given to the Y'd Awakes, Y-4's, Y-QT'S and the Tri-Lights for selling the most candy. Mrs. Mellette announced the winner of the Junior High women's committee award. This award is given to the club which had the best all-round program for the year. The winner was the Y-4's, with Nancy Dilley, president, receiving the award for her club. Climaxing the evening was the presentation of the Club of the Year award, given by the Anaheim YMCA Men's Club to the club with the best service record for the year. This year's winner was the Y'd Awakes. Richard Loop made the presentation. The Y'd Awakes have totaled well over 1000 hours in service to the school, Begonia Society To Hear Authority In Garden Grove Rudolph Ziesenhenne, internationally recognized authority on begonias, will come from Santa Barbara to address the Orange County Begonia Society Thursday, June 11, at 8 p.m. in Garden Grove Grange Hall, Century Blvd. and Taft Ave., it was announced by Anthony Todaro, vice-president. Ziesenhenne is a popular speaker, and he is expected to attract visitors from all of Southern California. The program will be open to the public without charge.
