IT'S A DATE — Joyce Callahan, 18, wants folks to remember the April 23 through May 3 dates set for coming 1959 National Orange Show in San Bernardino. Famed exposition will spotlight exotic "Polynesian Paradise" theme in spectacular golden California citrus exhibits.
Glass will carry heavy loads for short periods of time, but might fracture under the same load if carried for long periods, says Prof. C. J. Phillips of the Rutgers University school of ceramics.
Four out of every 10 American teenagers drop out of school without graduating every year. Only about half of these dropouts find jobs. The rest are unemployed.

McCALLUM, a Notary Public in and for said County and State, residing therein, duly commissioned and sworn personally appeared AL TIGER, known to me to be the president, and DAVID TIGER, known to me to be the president, than to be the Secretary of CITY FINANCE PLAN OF SANTA ANA, the corporation which executed the within instrument, both being known to me to be the persons who executed the within instrument on behalf of the corporation herein named, and they acknowledged to me that said Corporation, executed the City Clerk and the City Engineer for furnishing the following: All plant, labor, services, materials and equipment, and all utilities and transportation, including power, fuel and water, and performing all work necessary to construct and complete in a good and workmanlike manner in strict accordance with the specifications, plans and drawings thereof; file in the office of the City Engineer on City Clerk of the City of Anaheim, the following public improvement, 10-wit; The South Los Angeles Street Sewer improvement consisting of the construction of a 12-inch V.C.P. sewer lateral in South Los Angeles Street from 1906 feet north of Katella Avenue to Katella Avenue, including trenching, backfitting to flow line of water line; construction of 8-inch V.C.P. Type A house connections; 4-foot I.D. manholes, and appurtenant work as indicated on the plans; Job No. 1158 and shall be tabulated by the City Engineer and the result thereof reported to the City Council at its next regular or adjourned regular meeting for action thereon by said City Council.
PURSUANT to the provisions of Section 1779 of the Labor Code, the City Council of the City Anaheim metropolitan area general prevailing rate of wages in the locality in which this type of work is to be performed for each type of worker needed to execute this contract. The hourly wage scale so as follows:
Hourly Rate made payable to the City of Anaheim, and shall be leased and delivered to the City Clerk at the City Hall of the City of Anaheim before 2:00 o'clock P.M., on the 23rd day of April, 1959, at which time sealed proposals will be opened in public by the City Clerk and the City Engineer. Sealed proposals shall be submitted in sealed envelopes and marked in the upper left hand corner. Work proposal for constructions of THE SOUTH LOS ANGELES STREET SEWER IMPROVEMENT JOB NO. 1154," together with the name and address of the bidder. The above meptoned check or bond shall be given as a guarantee that the bidder will enter into a contract, if awarded to him, and if formed forfeited if the successful bidder referee being requested to do so by the City of Anaheim. Such contract shall be entered into within fifteen (15) days after receipt by said contractor of notice of the awarding of the contract, unless such time is extended by the City of Anaheim.
Each bid must specify the name and location of the mill, shop or office of each subcontractor who will perform the construction of the work or improvement and the portion of the work which will be done by each subcontractor. If any bid submitted fails to specify a subcontractor as after-said, the contractor submitting such bid agrees to perform the work himself.
The successful bidder will be required to furnish a faithful performance bond in an amount equal to 100% of the contract price and a labor and material bond in an amount equal to 100% of the contract price, and bonds to be secured from a surety or bonding company, satisfactory to the City Council of the City of Anaheim and shall be approved by the City Attorney as to form and sufficiency before acceptance.
Laws and specifications may be obtained from the City Engineer or the City Clerk of the City of Anaheim at the City Hall, Anaheim, California for the sum of $1.00 (Dollars), if picked up at said office or the sum of Six ($6.00) Dollars, if forwarded by mail.
The successful bidder will be required to continuously maintain adequate protection of all of his work and adjacent property from damage arising out of the performance of the contract. The contractor shall be responsible that all employees of subcontractors are protected by such insurance. Such insurance shall be furnished by companies satisfactory to the City and subject to the approval of the City Attorney as to form and sufficiency.
The successful bidder and any subcontractor and contractors employed by him in the performance of solid work or any part of the work of solid construction will be required to use only such manufactured articles, materials and supplies as have been mined or produced in the United States, and only such manufactured articles, materials and supplies as have been manufactured in the United States substantially all from articles, materials and supplies mined, produced and manufactured in the United States may be in the United States pursuant to the provisions of Sections 4300 to 4305, both inclusive, of the Government Code of the State of California.
Pursuant to the provisions of Sections 4330 and 4321 of the Government Code of the State of California, and price, fitness and quality being equal, the successful bidder and any subcontractors or contractors employed by him on the above described public improvement shall be required to prefer supplies grown, manufactured or produced in the State of California. Each bidder must comply with a Non-collation Affidavit, copies of which may be obtained from the City Clerk.
The successful bidder or bidders shall be required to enter into a contract with the City of Anaheim in the manner and form approved by the City Attorney of the City of Anaheim.
The City Council reserves the right to reject any and all bids or to waive any informality to the extent permitted by law, and reserves the further right to make an award to the lowest responsible bidder found and determined to serve the best interests of the City of Anaheim.
