Doctor buys car to call on lions
Dr. L. Kalantar, owner of the Burbank Dog and Cat Hospital, 190 E. Alameda in Burbank makes many a house call—on dogs, cats, bobies, even monkeys and ocelots.
"Like the other day I got a call to come out and examine the fangs on a full grown mountain lion. If you own a cat like that you just don't jump in a cab and bring the SAN DIEGO—Ralph C. Caballero, seaman, USN, son of Mrs. Carrie C. Cabellero, of 413 N. Sabina, and Joseph C. Ybarra, seaman, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Ybarra, of 501 E. Cypress, Anaheim, aboard the support aircraft carrier USS Hornet, took part in an anti-submarine warfare exercise from Feb. 16-19, off the coast of southern California.
"Skynet," formed of vessels of the U.S. First Fleet and several units of the Naval Reserve, was divided into two teams; the "Blue" defenses and the "Purple" aggressors. The Blue surface and air forces were seeking to prevent the Purple forces submarines from breaking through a 600-mile sea-ward barrier off the coast. The exercise was conducted under the cooperational control of Vice Admiral R. E. Libby, the Commander of the First Fleet.

to call on lions
Dr. L. Kalantar, owner of the Burbank Dog and Cat Hospital, 150 E. Alameda in Burbank makes many a house call—on dogs, cats, horses, even monkeys and ocelots. "Like the other day I got a call to come out and examine the fangs on a full grown mountain lion. If you own a cat like that you just don't jump in a cab and bring the patient to the hospital. The doctor goes to the patient. So I needed a car. One morning I sat down with The Los Angeles Times classified. Took me an hour to go over all the automobile listings. There were dozens of possibilities—really good buys. Well, from these classified ads in The Times, I bought a '58 Chrysler Convertible and I couldn't ask for ainer car or a better deal. And the seller was just as pleased. He sold his cat quickly."
