Center, is now open for business and the public is being invited to inspect the new school facilities Sunday, February 8, according to Mrs. Myrtice Baxter, owner, and Mrs. Erma Lou McClelland, supervisor, registrar and acting manager. The new beauty college is equipped with the latest in beauty shop equipment and each trainee is allowed ample working room in her "station". Mrs. Baxter said the college will teach cosmotology in all its phases including beauty service, facials, hair styling, cutting, permanents, tints, hot oil and scalp treatments, manicuring, shampoos and other treatments. Mrs. Fedelma Mayo, instructor in hair styling and practical work, has had 25 years of beauty work including teaching in a San Francisco beauty college, owner of her own shop and experience as hair stylist in other beauty shops. Jeanette Johnson, famous hair stylist; will teach advanced styling for operators. Mrs. Baxter owns the Glamourama Beauty Salon in Fullerton and has had many years of experience as a shop owner. Mrs. Baxter said she plans to turn out completely trained beauty personnel, in both beginning and advanced courses. Mrs. McClelland owned the Chicago College of Beauty in Santa Ana which later became Erma FRESH HONEY APPLESAUCE 3 red-skinned apples 1 tbsp. lemon juice ¼ tsp. cinnamon or nutmeg ¾ cup honey or more to taste ¼ tsp. sal to 1 qt. water Thinly slice cored apples. If sauce is to be served uncooked, put prepared apples in bowl of salted water. Allow them to stand 15 minutes to prevent discoloration. Combine lemon juice, cinnamon and honey. Put one-half of apple cubes into blender or food mill and add fruit juice mixture. Continue adding apples until all have been blended to a smooth sauce. Chill before serving. Gurley, who in 53 years of railroading rose from clerk to chairman of the board of the Santa Fe Railway, Chicago, today announced he will retire Feb. 28. He will continue as a director of the road. Born at Sedalia, Mo., in 1889, Gurley began his rail career as a clerk for the Burlington Railroad at Sheridan, Wyo., in 1906. In the ensuing 33 years he rose to the position of assistant vice president. He joined the Santa Fe as a vice president in June, 1939, becoming president of the railroad in August, 1955. He was named chairman of the board in May, 1957. Duke Ellington on Telephone Hour Jazz will come to the new Bell Telephone Hour February 10th when Duke Ellington and Ella Fitzgerald join four other stars in a special hour-long program devoted to American music. It will be seen at 8 p.m. over NBC television. Also to appear on the program are pianist Grant Johannesen, playing part of Gershwin concerto; opera star Rise Stevens, in two excerpts from "Regina;" Martha Wright and Russell Nype singing American musical comedy hits, and the New York City ballet in "Stars and Strikes." Donald Voorhees and the Bell Telephone Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Calif., Thurs., Feb. 5, 1906 Fitzgerald together in the "American Festival" program, the Telephone Hour pays tribute to an important field of American music — the classics of jazz. The Duke has been pre-eminent in instrumental jazz for the past 30 years, and Ella has been tops among jazz singers for the past 20. They're teamed for the first time on television. Induction Service For Hi-Y Groups Twenty-three new members were formally inducted in the Yeoman Hi Y and Kingman's Hi Y at a colorful induction service at St. Michael's Episcopal Church Sunday afternoon. A challenge to build Christian values enthusiastically among all relationships was presented by O. G. Thomason, Y board member. Other adults assisting in the ceremony included Walter Taylor, Harry Burford, Stephen Holden and William Hoover, Y Boys' secretary. Yeomen inducted were: Mike Anderson, Bill Bielfeld, Geo. Bragg, Dick Corradino, John Easton, Stephen Habener, Tom Leo, Mike Maxson, Joe Nakamura, Chuck Osborn, Leon Pannier, Peer Rasmusseh, Louis Roepke, Glenn Stockwell, Tony Taylor, John Visel, Larry Kubota, Rudy Pena, Jim Shiota.
