8 - Anaheim Gazette Anaheim, Calif., Thurs., Jan. 22, 1959 Tips on Touring By Carol Lane Women's Travel Authority Advice From A Pro "If there's any one secret to safe driving, it's total concentration. The automobile is almost never at fault in an accident; human error is. When I'm racing, I can't even remember my wife's name. All I know is the road in front of me." That's the excellent advice of Walt Hansgen, considered to be one of America's top sports car racing drivers. Here is more advice from Hansgen. "Driving isn't just stepping on the gas and steering. Watch your mirror and the road ahead of you. Be sure you've had enough sleep before getting behind your wheel. And eat sensibly. Stay away from rich foods that can upset your stomach and your disposition. On a long trip, take breaks every 150 miles or so. Don't just sit in the car, either; get out and walk around." Walt's parting words—with which we at Shell concur most strongly: "Whatever you do, practice what I call 'motorist maturity.' That is, don't get into races with other cars on the highways. Don't take out your frustrations on other drivers. Don't try to 'get even' with careless drivers. In short, be adult." Fine, hard-headed advice for a safe journey. LEGAL NOTICE (Pub.
