The Planters hotel has passed into the management of H. S. Knapp who proposes to conduct the house in a first class manner and will endeavor to make it attractive to tourists.
Madame Modjeska and her husband Count Bozenta were in town on Tuesday. They are enjoying a rest in Santiago Canyon as the guests of J. E. Pleasants.
Dominic Lieb has purchased the Fountain Saloon on Center Street from Albert Reiser. A fine billiard table, free lunch, reading room and the best of beer and liquors are offered.
R. W. Scott Esq., having gone on a trip to Washington Territory, his office business will be attended by D. W. Hudson.
Among the Anaheimers sojourning at the ever popular resort "Anaheim Landing" we notice the following: Mrs. J. W. Landell and children, Mrs. Josephine Butler, Mrs. Hughes, F. A. Korn and family, Mrs. H. Cahen and children, Mrs. Kate Meyerholz, Miss Alice Chevallier, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Schmidt, Mrs. Plez James and children, A. J. Mrs. Kate Meyerholz, Miss Alice Chevaller, Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Schmidt, Mrs. Plez James and children, A. J. Mead and family, Mrs. Mosseman and family, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Lynill, Mrs. Richard Melrose and children, M. Cowan and family. An unpleasant prevalence of stingrays in the surf detracted somewhat from the enjoyment of the bathers last week, but Capt. Wilson has thinned out the varmints by hauling the sein every morning where the bathers deposit themselves. Their houses have been built this year. The owner of the rancho, Mr. Bixby, does not object to building on the land by people known to him.
On Tuesday evening the following officers of Anaheim Lodge No. 199, I.O.O.F., were installed by District Deputy Champlin: J. Jonas, N.G.; Dr. James Ellis, V.G.; J. H. Gooch, secretary; J. P. Zeyn, treasurer. The appointed officers are: E. W. Champlin-R.S.V.G.; F. A. Korn, A.S.V.G.; W. M. Higgins, L.S.V.G.; Wm. R. Harker, Warden; J. H. Hill, Guardian.
There will be a big auction sale at the San Francisco Cash Store, beginning on Tuesday next and continuing three days.
Goodman and Rimpau have finished unpacking their new goods. They have everything in their line (dry goods) which the most captious could desire and they have determined not to be undersold.
Of the $50 donated by the town for the Fourth of July Fund, only $7.50 was used and the balance was returned to the town treasury.

Word has been received that the San Jacinto and Trabuco canyon forest reserves are to be consolidated under the name of the Cleveland National Forest in honor of Grover Cleveland.
Joseph Dauser this week moved to Los Angeles where he will take up his residence. He has been for many years a resident of this city and takes with him the esteem of his many friends as well as best wishes for his future welfare.
John Hartung, Otto Storm, Adolph Thomas, Charles A. Boege and Wm. McLaughlin attended a meeting of Orange County Bankers at Newport Beach on Tuesday evening.
Mrs. Lloyd C. Bailey and little daughter Miriam are here from Mazatlan, Mexico visiting friends and relatives. They will remain during the summer.
The Ladies' Euchre club was pleasantly entertained on Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Fred Rimpau at ner home on Los Angeles street. At the game of progressive euchre the first prize was won by Mrs. Dyer, the second by Mrs. Lewis and the consolation by Mrs. Falkenstein. Refreshments of ice cream and cake were served during the afternoon. The next meeting will be held in September with Mrs. Melrose.
Ahlborn and Raymond have begun extensive alterations in their store. The interior will be handsomely embellished and when completed will be one of the haudsomest in the county. Contractor Tedford is making the improvements.
Murray and Tracy Mills came over from Riverside the past week to visit their brother Robert.
The city trustees met in regular session on Thursday evening: Present trustees Stock, Fiscus,
Koeger and Gates. In the absence of Mayor Rust, Trustee Stone was elected president pro tempore. The recorder reported six cases in court during the month. Five collected $45, fees $18. The season's record for raspberry shipments occurred on Monday, where 325 cases each hold-ing 30 boxes were shipped by express to Los Angeles. The berry season is now at its height, and more crates are being shipped daily than ever before. Shipments are made daily to Los Angeles, San Diego, Riverside and other southern California points. The price is $1.25 per crate, f.o.b. Anaheim.

TWO WAY CUPCAKES
¼ c. butter
1½ c. sugar
3 eggs
1½ tsps. vanilla
2½ c. sifted cake flour
3 tsps. baking powder
1½ tsps. salt
1 c. milk
2 1-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate melted
Cream butter; gradually add sugar and beat until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time; add vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk, mix in well after each addition. Divide batter in half. Stir cooled, melted chocolate into one half. Fill 2-inch paper baking cups 2/3 full and bake in a 375 degree oven for 15-20 minutes. Makes 2 dozen cupcakes.
OTTO WISHNOWSKY
Otto Wishnowsky. 81, died Tuesday at Florence Nightingale Sanitarium after a prolonged illness. He was born in Germany and had been a resident of Anaheim for 31 years. He lived at 911 East Center. He is survived by his two cousins: Mrs. Ellen Samuels and Mrs. Ruby Weaber of Anaheim. Private funeral services were held in the chapel of Backs - Troutman & Kaulbars, Wednesday with the Rev. R. W. Bentz officiating and interment was in Fairhaven cemetery.
