Dyke Water Co.
Cannot Sell Its
Water to Stanton
LOS ANGELES — The California Public Utilities Commission has turned down a proposal by the Dyke Water Company of Garden Grove to sell water to the City of Stanton for resale at the rate of $4 a connection per month.
The Commission found the proposed service by the Dyke Company improper because the areas which would be served by Stanton within its city limits are in the certificated territory of the Southern California Water Company.
No Flat Rate Allowed
The Commission further said the proposal was unreasonable because flat-rate service would be provided in contradiction of previous orders requiring all public utility water companies in southwestern Orange County to pursue a metering program to conserve underground water supplies.
The Commission also found that the proposed wholesale rate of $4 a month would be 25 cents higher than the Dyke Company's present retail rate of $3.75.
Company Proposal
The company, in an advice letter filed with the Commission last Nov. 27, proposed to sell water to Stanton for resale to some 80
The Commission also found that the proposed wholesale rate of $4 a month would be 25 cents higher than the Dyke Company's present retail rate of $3.75.
Company Proposal
The company, in an advice letter filed with the Commission last Nov. 27, proposed to sell water to Stanton for resale to some 80 prospective consumers in a tract north of Cerritos Avenue along the west side of Dale Street, and to about 60 houses under construction north of Orangewood Avenue and east of Stanton Avenue.
A public hearing on the proposal was held in the Stanton City Hall on Jan. 8.
The term turnpikes comes from 1795 when long poles (or pikes) barred privately built roads in Pennsylvania. The pikes were not turned up to permit passages of stages and other vehicles until a toll was paid.
