ANAHEIM Society News The Gazette welcomes news contributions to this section. Margaret Kohlenberger Is Wed In Double-Ring Ceremony Here Miss Margaret E. Kohlenberger and Alvin William Boland were united in marriage in a double-ring ceremony at Anaheim First Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. Roland Anderson and Dr. Robert Burns McAulay officiating. The chancel was decorated with pink gladioli and white chrysanthemums which made a beautiful background for the ceremony. The altar was lighted with myriads of white tapers, which also lined the bride's aisle. The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George F. Kohlenberger of 314 No. Philadelphia Street, Anaheim, and was given in marriage by her father. She was gowned in a Cahill original of white moire taffeta with Venetian braid, lace yoke and cathedral train. Her illusion veil was held in place by a seed pearl crown, and she carried white orchids and roses. Her attendants were Miss Yvonne Fitz, maid of honor, and the bridesmaids were Misses Margaret Clare Sterba, Rachel Cadwalader and Diane Knutzen. They all wore light green taffeta. Engagement Dinner For Nadine Hoffner The engagement of Miss Nadine Hoffner to Clyde William Clewett Jr. was announced at a family dinner given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dorell L. Hoffner of 739 No. Pine Street. Miss Hoffner is a graduate of Anaheim Union High School and Fullerton College, where she was a member of Phi Alpha Omega. Her finance, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Clyde W. Clewett of Huntington Park, graduated from South Gate High School and is now a student at Fullerton Junior College. The wedding has been set for Aug. 16, 1958, in Anaheim First Presbyterian Church. ALANA CLUB DINNER Members of the Alana Club of this city have planned a public dinner to be held at 129½ W. Center Street Dec. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. Money derived from this event will be used to further the work of the club. "Secret Pals" to Be Revealed at Christmas Party The regular monthly luncheon meeting of the Coastal Rail Association of O.E.S. was held on Thursday, Nov. 30th, at "The Lincoln Avenue in the The meeting had been held due to the joint installation officers in Long Beach while held on the regular meeting of Nov. 16th. Lawrence Peterson of Long Beach served as best man, and the ushers were Donald and John Kohlenberger, brothers of the bride, and Frederick R. Moore of San Francisco. Candles were lighted by Miss Alice Anderson of Santa Ana and Miss Diane Anderson of San Diego, cousins of the bride. The bride's musical background is well known, and her former associates in a girls' triple trio at the church sang several beautiful numbers before the ceremony, directed by Mrs. George Sloop. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church social hall where a five-tiered cake surrounded by pink camellias and fern occupied a prominent place on the bride's table. The bride was graduated from Anaheim Union High School, Fullerton Junior College and Long Beach State College, and the bridegroom is a graduate of Fargo High School and Long Beach City College. Mrs. Boland belongs to a well-known family of Orange County pioneers, being the granddaughter of the late Senator and Mrs. John N. Anderson of Santa Ana, and the late Mr. and Mrs. John Kohlenberger of Anaheim. Live Christmas Cards On An'Ebell Program Two performances of their "Living Christmas Cards" were staged this week at the Christmas meet- Live Christmas Cards On An'Ebell Program Two performances of their "Living Christmas Cards" were staged this week at the Christmas meetings of Anaheim Ebell Club and Anaheim Junior Ebell Club. They marked the beginning of their fourth year of drama work. The first was held last Monday afternoon when the senior group held its annual Christmas tea in the clubhouse. Members brought gifts of warm clothing or food, in unbreakable containers, to be sent to Arizona Indians. Mrs. B. R. Coupland was program chairman and Mrs. E. H. Kersten presided. Tea hostesses were Mrs. Harold Rankin and Mrs. Edwin J. Tyreman. The second performance was given Tuesday evening when the junior membership met with Mrs. Leonard Bouas presiding. The musical setting for both performances was provided by a newly formed singing group of members, directed by Mrs. Kenneth Stromquist and accompanied by Mrs. C. B. Cook. Mrs. Joe Thompson is coordinator of An'Ebell Players and the script was written by Mrs. Angelo Battaglia. The Players won first drama award this year in the Orange District, second in the statewide drama contest of California Federation of Women's Clubs. SHOP IN ANAHEIM! The meeting had been held over due to the joint installation of officers in Long Beach which was held on the regular meeting date of Nov. 16th. The centerpiece was a replica of an old sailing ship filled with flowers and evergreens. The new "Ruths" for 1958 were introduced and extended a cordial welcome — many, of whom joined the association. The meeting was conducted by Iva Herman, president, who announced that both the 1957 Grand Ruth, Margaret Nottingham, and the new 1958 Grand Ruth, Jewel Gerard, who are both members of northern California chapters, will be present at the meeting on Dec. 21st. This is the Christmas party at which time gifts will be exchanged and "Secret Pals" will be revealed. Election of officers for the year 1958 will also be held at the December meeting which is to be held at 1 p.m. in the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Haworthne, 4222 Walnut Avenue in Long Beach. A report of the dinner honoring the Grand Ruths at Grand Chapter was given. Anna Holiday received "Birthday Honors" and the two door prizes were won by Winifred Kemp and Virginia Elckman. Dorothy Downs was chairman for the day, assisted by Marilyn Wilson of Chime Charter in Anaheim. Inspection Night At VFW Auxiliary The district president, Edna Anten gave a talk at the meeting of the VFW Auxiliary Monday night, Nov. 25; at her official inspection. Visitors were present from Fullarton, Arlington, Long Beach and Laguna Beach Auxiliaries. A gift was presented later to Mrs. Anten. A report on the progress of the Christmas party was given during the business session. Also plans were discussed for the work at the Veterans Hospital during the month of December. Dolly Manwarren of Fullerton Auxiliary was winner of the hand painted plate given away. Bessie Smith furnished entertainment, singing a solo and giving several readings, after which refreshments were served by the hostesses, Freida Kramer, Martha Russell and Amy Whiteman. Next regular meeting will be Monday evening, Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. at the VFW Hall on No. Philadelphia Street. HEATHER WILLS WATKINS Mr. and Mrs. H. Wills Watkins, Jr., of 1139 Lomita Place, Anaheim, are the parents of a daughter, Heather, born last Sunday at Queen of Angels Hospital in Los Angeles. The young lady weighed a little over seven pounds. She has a brother awaiting her at home. Reveal Engagement Of Grace Gruenemay Mr. and Mrs. Edward F. Gruenemay of 1268 E. Sycamore Street, Anaheim have announced the engagement of their daughter, Miss Delores Grace, to Daniel P. Flynn, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Flynn of Van Nuys. Miss Gruenemay is a graduate of Anaheim Union High School, where she was president of Colonial Co-eds, and of Criss Business College. She is employed by Servonics Instrument Company in Costa Mesa. Her finance graduated from Van Nuys High School and was a member of Delta Sigma Phi while attending USC. He is with Radio Plane Company in Van Nuys. The wedding will take place in February. Anaheim Couple Note Gold Wedding On December 8, a reception will be held from two to five p.m. at the La Crescenta Women's Club in La Crescenta honoring Georgia and Jim Martin, Anaheim residents, who are celebrating their golden wedding anniversary. Among those present will be their son, three daughters, thirteen grandchildren and a great-grandson. Mr. and Mrs. Martin were married on Christmas Day, 1907, near Carlton, Texas. They moved to Colorado shortly thereafter and later to Vista before coming to Anaheim in 1955. They now reside at Rancho La Paz, 501 East Orangethorpe. Reports of League chairmen made up business for the meeting. Treasurer's report was read by Mrs. Kenneth Heuler, Mrs. Henry Dahl led a discussion on plans for the annual league dance to be held at the Disneyland Hotel on the first Saturday in February, Mrs. James Morris gave a report on membership. The board announced plans to entertain the membership at a dessert-bridge on Dec. 9th at the clubhouse. Mrs. Paul Baker reported on the work done by the membership for the United Fund Campaign. Twenty-three participated in this activity with a total of 126 hours being devoted to this worthy project. Mrs. Phillip McGraw reported on the sewing which had been done during the past month. The clothing made by the members will go to needy children. Mrs. Gordon Swoffer, project chairman, reported that she had distributed household items to several families as well as a layette. Mrs. Bill Wilmer has made plans for the "Christmas Toy Wrap" for Dec. 17th. At this time the members will wrap toys to be distributed on Christmas Eve. Refreshments were served at the conclusion of the meeting by the hostesses Mrs. Jay Reed, Mrs. Phillip Quarre, Mrs. Jack Golden and Mrs. Flemming Nielsen. Grand Canyon Beauties Program At Broadway P-TA The recent P-TA meeting for November was presided over by the president, Mrs. George A. Bell and was held at the Broadway School. The main feature of the afternoon was a colored film entitled "In the Beginning" dealing with the beauties of the Grand Canyon and of the history of geology of the canyon, with spectacular recreations of nature's three-billion-year drama. Ways and Means Chairman Mrs. Roger Acton announced that a grease drive will start on Monday, Dec. 9, running until Thursday, Dec. 12. The attendance room count was won by Mrs. Eunice McConaghy's first grade. Hostesses for the refreshment course were Mrs. Terry's third grade room mothers. The table was centered with a cornucopia filled with fall flowers with blue tapers on each side. Until 1736, New Jersey had a separate assembly, but its chief executive was the governor of New York. Mrs. Jameson Has "Goodbye" Party Mrs. I. M. Jameson, of Anaheim, retired from the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company after 40 years of service. Mrs. Jameson started her career with P.T.A.T. in 1917, and has served as chief operator in Anaheim, Santa Ana, Pomona, Riverside and San Bernardino. District traffic manager R. H. Deaver presented her with an honorary identification card for 40 years of service. A large cake at the festivities was inscribed with "Goodbye, Chief." Many gifts and cards were received together with the best wishes of all her associates. Adult Sewing Class Anaheim women are invited to join the adult sewing class at the night school now being held at the Anaheim Union High School on Thursdays from 7 to 10 p.m. Instructor Mrs. Wealthy Lundy Stone advises women that they can make dresses that will look like broadway's latest fashions if they make a French draped block.
