New Law Sets Driving Hours For Bus Drivers Sleepiness or fatigue is doubly hazardous when it affects drivers of commercial vehicles, warns the local office of the California Highway Patrol. "Changes in the traffic laws which became effective September 11, 1957, include restrictions on driving time by drivers of vehicles used for transportation of persons or freight for compensation," declared Captain H. W. Null in command of the Anaheim area of the Patrol. "Drivers of vehicles which transport persons for compensation shall not drive more than ten hours in any 24-hour period unless eight consecutive hours off duty have elapsed." "The same law provides that drivers of vehicles used for the transportation of freight or other property for compensation shall drive for only twelve hours in any 24-hour period unless eight consecutive hours' off duty have elapsed," he stated. Drivers and operators of all commercial vehicles should review this and other laws applicable to them, particularly those laws changed or revised by the 1957 Legislature. "Voluntary adherence to the laws is desired," the Captain said. "However, drivers who fail to conform can expect enforcement action against all such hazardous practices." "However, drivers who fail to conform can expect enforcement action against all such hazardous practices." Local Rosicrucian Appointment Made Rosicrucian Order (AMORC) will be represented in this community in its extension activities by Maxine V. Barrett, of 1003 Gravier Street, Anaheim, who recently received a certificate of appointment as District Commissioner, from the Grand Lodge, located in San Jose. The duties of the Commissioner are varied and his services are without compensation. Among other things, he is required to place paid advertisements in local newspapers, in conjunction with the advertising campaign of the Order, the activities of which are international. According to Mrs. Barrett it is her duty, also, to analyze the Rosicrucian radio programs if and when broadcast over local stations. The Rosicrucian Order is a fraternity devoted to the dissemination of knowledge of the natural laws of life and the teachings of a philosophy. It is neither commercial nor religious. Its work is world-wide and each county has its various sectional lodges, chapters, and extension commissioners. The international conventions, which are held annually at San Jose, are attended by hundreds of students from different nations. Each District Commissioner encourages all members of his community to enjoy, if possible, the experience of attending such meetings.
