Plans Speed-up Of Holiday Mail A contract for truck movement of Christmas parcel post in the Los Angeles area during December has been awarded to Service Movers, Inc., of Los Angeles, redeliver the mail to 65 post offices in Los Angeles and Orange counties, with connections to an additional 60 offices. The Los Angeles Post Office will continue to be served directly from the railroad terminal, but Scoggins said that the special truck movement will permit a large volume of mail to bypass the Los Angeles postal terminal Post Office Dept. Plans Speed-up Of Holiday Mail A contract for truck movement of Christmas parcel post in the Los Angeles area during December has been awarded to Service Movers, Inc., of Los Angeles, regional director Verne Scoggins of the Post Office department announced today. The special Christmas operation will be based at the Maywood Air Force Depot. Scoggins said that the contractor will unload approximately 600 railroad cars of parcel post in a 22-day period and deliver the mail to 65 post offices in Los Angeles and Orange counties, with connections to an additional 60 offices. The Los Angeles Post Office will continue to be served directly from the railroad terminal, but Scoggins said that the special truck movement will permit a large volume of mail to bypass the Los Angeles postal terminal and expedite delivery throughout southern California. The contractor will also transport outgoing parcel post from the 125 post offices and deliver it to the railroads. Scoggins predicted the contractor will handle a total of more than 750,000 sacks of mail containing more than 6,000,000 parcels. He said that the special Christmas operation had proven successful in experiments during the past two holiday mail periods with parcels being delivered as much as 48 hours earlier.
