Bank of America Reports $231,000 To Christmas Club Santa's going to need more reindeer plus a trailer-sled to tote his gifts this year if Bank of America's 1957 Christmas Club statewide totals are any indication of the shopping spree to come. In Anaheim, Branch Manager Richard W. Gay said checks totaling $231,000.00 will be mailed Nov. 15 to 1,940 local Christmas Club savings. With $62,000,000 in 516,000 accounts throughout the state, never have so many Californians saved so much toward a merry, bill-free Christmas, Mr. Gay said. The statewide totals show an increase of $8,700,000 and 94,000 more accounts than last year and are the highest since Bank of America started its Christmas savings program almost a quarter century ago. The Christmas Club, designed to help depositors put aside funds for the holidays, Gay added, also is used by some as a source of ready cash for winter vacations or end-of-year expenses such as insurance and tax payments. Says HP Danger days for pedestrians are here warns the California Highway Patrol. "November and December are high accident months for pedestrians according to past experience," stated Patrol Captain H. W. Null of the local office. "In 1956, during November and December, 2,117 pedestrians were involved in traffic accidents in this state. Ten of these occurred in this area," Captain Null continued. "Most pedestrians were crossing a street, not at an intersection, crossing at an intersection with no traffic signal or walking in the roadway when struck down by a motor vehicle," the Captain concluded. "The observance of a few simple rules will usually keep you out of an accident while walking in traffic." "Obey traffic laws, wear white at night, look carefully before crossing any street, walk facing traffic on rural highways and remember it is unlawful for a pedestrian who is intoxicated . . . to walk or be upon a roadway."
