Famed Artist Painting Murals At St. Catherine's
One of Anaheim's most significant and pretentious artistic efforts is taking place in the unfinished chapel on the grounds of St. Catherine's Military School, according to artist Don May of Anaheim.
John Henryk de Rosen, holder of the French Legion of Honor award for his work, is painting a mural: "The Descent of Truth" without blueprint or sketches. In his mind's eye he holds the figures to be represented, and brings them to life with long, sweeping strokes. The huge mural will contain the figures of St. Augustine, St. Thomas, Dante, Fra Angelico, Catherine of Sienna, Jane of Aza, Gertrude the Great, and the Apostles. All these have been called the receivers and recorders of the great truths of life.
De Rosen has painted the interiors of the Armenian Cathedral of Lwow, Poland; the Cathedral of Peter and Paul, Washington; and the Pope's private chapel at Castlegondolfa in Rome. Don May regards his present assignment as a real masterpiece.

Santa Fe Changes San Diego Runs
The California Public Utilities Commission today authorized the Santa Fe Railway to reduce its weekday passenger service between Los Angeles and San Diego from six to five trains each way, effective Oct. 28.
On Sundays and holidays the present six streamliners will continue to operate south bound to San Diego but the service will be cut to five northbound trains to Los Angeles.
At public hearings in Los Angeles and San Diego, Santa Fe officials estimated that under the present six-train schedules the railroad would sustian out-of-pocket losses of $200,812 in 1957 and would still lose $1,251 annually with the curtailed service.
Under the order, southbound schedules will remain unchanged except for the train leaving Los Angeles at 8 p.m., which will be dropped on week days. That train, however, will continue to run on Sundays and holidays.
Northbound schedules will be modified as follows: the train now leaving San Diego at 7 a.m. will be operated only on weekdays but discontinued on Sundays and holidays. The train presently departing from San Diego at 8 p.m., will be discontinued weekdays but continued on Sundays and holidays.
All other schedules between the two cities will remain unchanged.

On successive evenings, he appears as "The Pharisee Who Sought Christ", "The King Who Mocked Christ" and "The Blind Beggar Healed by Christ". Other characterizations include the "Governor Who Judged Christ", the "Apostle Who Doubled Christ", the "Disciple Beloved by Christ". Each impersonation is introduced or followed by a brief Bible message, keyed to the character.
Mr. Jackson's "Gospel Life Portraits" are given in full costume, with interpretative lighting-effects and music. The special lighting and audio-electronic equipment is operated by his wife who assists her husband as a technician.
An ordained minister of the Gospel, Paul Gerrard Jackson was formerly a professional actor. He specialized in the classical drama, and played a variety of Shakespearean roles in trans-continental tours of the United States and Canada.
He received his education at Dartmouth College and the Dallas Seminary of Texas. His first pastorate was in Boston, followed by a ministry in Maine. His latest pastorate was with the Cornerstone Church of Providence, Rhode Island.
Mr. Jackson has been a popular speaker at Youth Rallies throughout the country. On several occasions he has been called to supply the pulpit of the Moody Memorial Church of Chicago, and has been a guest-preacher in the Calvary Baptist Church of New York City and the People's Church of Toronto. He has also enjoyed an extensive ministry as a Bible Conference Speaker, and has made guest appearances in his dramatic characterizations on coast-to-coast television programs.
The public is invited to see this interesting program.
