Gas Co. Has New Service Director Helen Packer Appointment of Helen Packer as assistant home service director of Southern Counties Gas Company's Orange County Division was announced today by Justin M. Kennedy, division manager. Miss Packer will assist Mrs. Geraldine Gerken, home service director. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., Miss Packer attended Mater Dei High School, Santa Ana; Fullerton Junior College; and received a B.S. in home economics from Oregon State College. She was a trainee in the gas company’s summer program in 1955. The new assistant director will have a major role in the training program which Southern Counties each year develops for homemaking classes in the local public schools systems. In this program, she and Mrs. Gerken give advice to Palm Lane P-TA Has Year's First Meeting Kindergarten mothers acted as hostesses at the first fall meeting of Palm Lane P-TA of Anaheim on Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m. The state convention theme of the year is "The Strength of P-TA Vision-Action-Courage" and the group selected as its particular theme for the evening "Building Character is Vision". Teachers and officers were introduced, and Den 10 of Cub Scout Pack No. 128 presented their own puppet show entitled "Cub Capers." Dinner Planned By Marshall P-TA At their first meeting of the year, Anaheim members of Dr. Peter Marshall School P-TA discussed a barbecue ham dinner which will be held on Nov. 13. Mrs. John Ball, P-TA president-presided, and introduced the following guests: Mrs. Frank Bokelman, district bus driver; Mrs. Lydia Denny, cafeteria manager; Mrs. William D. Stock, curriculum director, and Superintendent of Schools Kenneth Nielsen, all members of the administrative staff. Nielsen spoke of future plans necessary to meet the problems of the growing community; and the subject of obtaining new P-TA members was also discussed. Junior Ebell Club Entertain Husbands The first social event of the Anaheim Junior Ebell Club was an evening of fun for members and their husbands at Jimmy Smith's Swim Club in Sun Hills. This get-together included dancing as well as swimming. Flaming braziers were placed around the pool, and new members and their husbands were presented with brightly hued linen. Mrs. Ray Boone was chairwoman of the dance committee who provided an assortment of dances and Mrs. Carl Last and her committee served the beverages. Ebell Art Section In Special Session The Anaheim Ebell Club Section will have a special gering, open to all club members on Oct. 14. Tea will be served in the club house at 1:30 p.m., after which Evelyn Hamilton Keith, local list, will give a demonstration desert painting. Section chairman is Mrs. S. K. Watters, assisted Mrs. Edward L. Jones. The following day, Oct. 15, section will resume its regular Tuesday painting sessions at the clubhouse, with M. Keith as instructor. All members who are interested in these classes should enroll with Mrs. Vera. Mary Ann Ritter, Bertram R. Bonner Wed in Pretty Rites Anaheim's First Church of the Nazarene was the setting for the marriage of Miss Mary Ann Ritter and Bertram Roger Bonner, with the bridegroom's brother, Rev. Harold R. Bonner of San Anselmo, officiating at the double-ring rites. The attractive bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Ritter, 200 Evergreen Street, Anaheim. The bridegroom's parents are Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Bonner of 220 Coffman Avenue, Anaheim. The Rev. and Mrs. L. H. Ritter, grandparents of the bride, were guests of honor from Azusa. The bride wore an exquisite gown of Chantilly lace and tulle over ruffled tulle. Appliquéd lace added a decorative touch to the neckline, and her finger-tip veil was held in place by a crown of seed pearls and tulle. She carried two white orchids and stephanotis on her white Bible. Miss Phyllis Ritter was her sister's only attendant, wearing blue crystalline and carrying a basket of spider mums. Gale Bonner, the bridegroom's brother, was best man, and the ushers were Gary Bonner and Kenneth Lehman. With mums filling the chancel Mrs. William D. After a reception in the church fellowship hall, the couple started on their wedding trip to northern California. Upon their return, they will reside at 4500 Temescal, Norco, where the bridegroom is engaged in poultry ranching. Church Circles Get Fall Meetings Started Circle groups of the Women's Fellowship of Anaheim First Presbyterian Church met today at 1 p.m. in members' homes. They were asked to bring unwrapped Christmas gifts for men, women or children, which will be forwarded to Rev. Benjamin Brooks in Phoenix, Artz., and distributed to members of an Indian mission there. The women of the group who can sew were asked to bring cretonne bags with drawstrings, size 16x20 inches, which will be filled with Christmas gifts for Indian schoolchildren, and can later be used as school bags. The November group held a pot luck luncheon today at 12:30 in the Blue Room of the church. Many other circle meetings are scheduled for the future. Electric cooking is far cooler, too. The Orangetree Council No. 750 of the United Commercial Travelers of America, a fraternal organization, are meeting tonight. Thursday, at the Community Center at 1104 W. Eighth Street, Santa Ana, beginning at 7:30 p.m. This is to be a potluck supper and the regular monthly meeting for the members, guests and the Ladies Club. Business on the agenda for the meeting is the discussion of the banquet honoring Grand Counselor Harry Kraus on Saturday, Oct. 12, beginning at 6:30 p.m. This event is to be held at the Norway Hall at 681 Redqndo Ave., Long Beach. The Santa Ana Council will join with the Long Beach, Santa Monica and Compton Councils for the affair. Local officers participating in the program are Andy Dudecs as page, and Herb Kishmer on the executive committee. The president of the Ladies Club, Mrs. LaVonne Russ requests all ladies be present to consider forming an Auxiliary in the near future. F. Samuel Knox, president of the University of New Hampshire 100 Club which annually pledges $8,000 to help outstanding students, was a letter winner in football, boxing and track at NH and later played pro football with the Detroit Lions. Broadway P-TA Hold First Meeting The executive committee of the Broadway School P-TA held a meeting in the school's all-purpose room on Oct. 8 at 9:45 a.m., Mrs. George Bell, president, presiding. Plans were made for a get acquainted and general conference meeting which will be held at the school on Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. Robert E. Shanks, superintendent of the Anaheim Elementary Schools, will be the guest speaker. His topic will be "Information About Your School District." Dutton Passes Away Monday Costello Clifford Dutton, 73 years old, a native of Ohio and making his home in this area for 64 years, living at 1331 N. Los Angeles St., died Monday, Oct. 7, after an extended illness. He leaves one nephew, Jack C. Dutton of Anaheim; two nieces, Mrs. Ruth Harris of Banning and Mrs. Margaret Goff of Los Angeles, and one great niece, Mrs. Bob Bryant of Fullerton.
