Champ Accordion Player to Appear At L.B. Festival
The world champion accordion virtuoso, Johnny La Padula, is the featured soloist at the formal concert that will climax the Western States Accordion Festival in the Long Beach Municipal Auditorium on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 3 and 4, according to the DeBusschere Keyboard Conservatory, 1024 W. Center St., Anaheim; Ramon Littee, 7521 Commonwealth Ave., and Milton Mann, 7957 Whitaker Ave., Buena Park.
The 18-year-old artist is the first American to win the world title in the annual contests in Switzerland, competing against a score of older finalists from many countries, after sweeping honors at the Olympics Contest of the American Accordion Association.
His repertoire ranges from the most difficult classics to brilliant modern items. He won his international laurels with Weber's "Concertstuecke," formidable even for piano, and has been a guest on the Ed Sullivan and Sid Caesar and other leading shows.
Festival contest winners in the solo, duo, combo and band classifications will be announced at the Sunday night concert. Coronation of the 1957 Accordion Queen will be held Saturday night, after the aspiring lovelies have faced two panels of judges, one for beauty and the other for musical skill.

Miss Rowlett is well known in the company for her work during World War II as a member of the Red Cross Motor Corps. She is presently engaged in many company-sponsored, out-of-hour activities and is an active member in church life and young-people's groups in Santa Ana. The communications worker is presently enrolled in a UCLA extension studies course in industrial relations.
Before coming with Pacific Telephone in 1941, the manager had five years sales experience with the coast to coast chain of Kress variety stores. She also gained office experience in working with the Packard Motor Car Company and prior to her trip west to California was an accountant in her own business.
Miss Rowlett will maintain her business address at 200 North Lemon Street in Anaheim, site of the company's recently completed $640,000 office building.
There, she and her staff of service representatives, tellers, cashiers and order typists will handle daily customer contacts and transmit them to other departments.
Subjects vary such as moving a telephone to a new address, adding extension telephones and listings in the directories. They will answer any questions relating to telephone service equipment.
