Current production was 644,930 barrels compared with the 1951-55 average of 612,000 barrels. The United States produces 180,000 pianos annually. France produces 30,000, England 25,000, and Japan 20,000. The name of Acadia was changed to Nova Scotia in 1713. Women won the right to vote there in 1918. LEGAL NOTICES (Pub. State Regulated Sales Taxes for 4 Counties, 38 Cities Four more counties and 30 cities will adopt state-administered uniform sales and use taxes on July 1, it was announced today by the State Board of Equalization. Included in this group are Imperial, Kings, Riverside and Yuba counties as well as five recently incorporated cities located in counties which have previously taken advantage of the Bradley-Burns Uniform Sales and Use Tax Law. The new cities are Duarte, Industry and Santa Fe Springs in Los Angeles County, Fountain Valley in Orange County, and Monte Sereno in Santa Clara County. Twenty counties have not yet availed themselves of the provisions of the uniform collection machinery. Six of them lie south of the Golden Gate, San Francisco and San Mateo in the Bay area, Fresno and Tulare in the Central Valley, and San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara in southern California. The 14 northern nontaxing counties are inhabited by fewer than 400,000 persons. In addition to the 38 counties and 258 cities whose sales tax use taxes will be administered by the state, 46 other cities will minister their own sales tax only about 275,000 California live in the 37 cities whose main chants do not collect local sales taxes, and another 160,000 inhabit it the unincorporated areas where no such tax is levied. By July some 97 per cent of the state population will reside in cities and counties where a 4 per cent tax is collected, a 3 per cent state sales tax plus a 1 per cent local sales tax. Counties planning to avail themselves of state administration of local sales taxes begin October 1 may do so only if they adopt the necessary ordinance prior to September 2. No contract can be consummated until the county in which it situated has acted. The British Museum plans to publish a 300-volume catalogue of 5,000,ooo books in all Western languages from the beginning of printing in the late to end of 1955. The Museum hopes to publish about one volume a week over a six-year period.
